A TTOHNEYS Tm: NORR'IS Pnzns 120., Puofauma, Wumwmu. a. c.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM KLEIN, O F NEW YORK, N. Y.
TROUSERS-BELT-ATTACHING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 665,017, dated January 1, 1901.
Application filed September 12, 1900. Serial No. 29,763. (No model.)
' T aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM KLEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers-Belt-Attaching Devices, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for use in connection with the waistband of trousers for holding a belt in position; and the object thereof is to provide an improveddevice of this class which may be used for the purpose specified and also for the purpose of an attachment for the suspenders when suspenders are used; and with this and other objects in View the invention consists in a device for the purpose specified, constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in eac of the views, and in which-- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved do: vice; Fig. 2, an end view thereof; Fig. 3, a plan view of the blank from which the device is made, and Fig. 4 a similar view of a hook which I employ in the manufacture of the device.
In the practice of my invention I provide a blank a, consisting of an oblong strip of sheet metal, the corners of which are rounded at one end, as shown at a, and said end is provided with a flat projecting knob or head a The opposite end of the blank a is provided with a hook member a of the form shown in Fig. 3, and in practice the end of the blank a provided with the head a is folded at the dotted line 0. parallel with the body portion of the blank, as shown in Fig. 2, and the hook member a is then formed into a hook at, as shown in Fig. 2, and bent in the same manner as the opposite end. It will be observed that the body portion of the hook projects in a-direction opposite to that of the head a but the hook portion projects substantially in the same direction as the head a In forming the hook from the hook member a I preferably employ a steel hook 6. (Shown in Fig. 2 and in dotted lines in Fig.
3.) This hook I) is placed on the side of the hook member a of the blank a, and the hook vice; but it will be apparent'that the book may be formed from the hook member itself, if desired, or it may be independently formed and secured to the blank a.
In practice the device is connected with the waistband of the trousers by passing the hook 0. thereinto and turning the device so that the hook will be entirely within thewaistband, in which position the head a will project downwardly, and the belt is passed thereunder, that part of the device with which the head a is connected overlapping the belt and forming a loop a for this purpose.
When suspenders are worn, the hook is passed through the buttonholes in the button-straps before it is passed into the waistband of the trousers, and the device may thus be made to serve as means for connecting the suspenders with the trousers.
My improvement is simple in construction and operation and well adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended and is also comparatively inexpensive.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A device of the class described, comprising a body portion one end of which is folded parallel with the central part of the body portion to form a loop, the other end being provided with a hook which is folded parallel with the central part of the body portion, and in a direction opposite to that of the first-named end, the pointed end of the book being turned backwardly upon the body portion thereof, substantially as shown and I to form a loop, the other end of said blank my invention I have signed my name, in presbeing provided with a book which is folded ence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 10th 10 in the opposite direction, and parallel with clay of September, 1900.
the central part of the blank, the pointed end i 5 of the hook being turned backwardly inthe WILLIAM KLEIN same direction as the first-named end of the \Vitnesses: blank, substantially as shown and described. (J. O. OLSEN,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as F. A. STEWART.
