To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADOLF G. P. EBERT, of

Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State ofOhio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washing or Bathing Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled iu the art to which it pertains to make and use the same,

My invention relates to ,improvements in washing or bathing apparatus; and it consists in certain features of construction, and in combinations of parts hereinafter 'described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective showing the application of my improved apparatus. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan, partly in section, of a portion of my improved apparatus. lig.V 3 is an elevation in central vertical section of the water-supply-chamber, &c.

My improved apparatus comprises preferably two pieces of rubber-hose A A of the same or approximately the same length, with the two endsof the one piece of hose suitably united, respectively, to opposite ends of the other piece of hose. Said pieces of hose, on their under side and at suitable, preferably short,'inte rvals, are provided with discharging-holes or oriiioes, a. (See Fig. 2) communicationvbetween the ends of the one vpiece of hose and the ends of the other piece of hose, is established preferably by means of Y-shaped connections, B, composed prefer ably of any suitable untlexible material.

The central member b of the Y-shaped conneet-ion at one end of hose-section A is open, as at b', (see Fig. 2) and adapted to be connected with the source of water-supply as will hereinafter more fully appear, whereas the central member of the Y-shaped connection at the opposite ends of the'hose-sections is closed, preferably by means of a plug B. (See Fig. 2.)

The two hose-sections A A, when united to'- gether as hereinbefore described, form a loop that is adapted to slip over the head of the person by whom the apparatus is to be used Open' and to rest upon the shoulders of the person, as shown in Fig. 1With the discharging-perforations. of the hose-sections presenting downwardly. Two collars C, composed preferably of rubber, are slidably mounted upon each hose-sectionA, near opposite ends of the hosesection, respectively, as shown very clearly in Fig. 2, and a strap D, preferably of rubber-tubing, is provided for each end of the loop formed by the twov hose-sections A A, straps D .being passed between collars C C and hose-sections A. Both ends of each strap D are passed throughfa sleeve E also preferably composed of rubber, and sleeves E are adapted to snugly embrace the ends of the reof enlargement or reduction in size, andsaid straps are held in the desired adjustment by the friction had between them and the embracing sleeves.

In the case illustrated reservoir H, at its lower end, is provided with a stop-cock H and hose G is shown connectedwith said cock. Hose Gis preferably provided with a valve H2 at or near its connection with hose-sections A A, Within convenient reach of the person washing or bathing, and hence the supply of water can be conveniently regulated.

Bucket or reservoir H is designed for receiving heated Water, and, at or near its upper end, supports another pail or receptacle, I,

designed to receive cold water. Receptacle I is removably supported, the same having preferably an external fiange I that rests upon the upper end of bucket or reservoir H. An upright tubular member K is supported preferably centrally of receptacle I. The bottom of receptacle I, at the lower end of tubular member K, is provided with a discharge-hole I2 adapted to discharge into bucket or reser-` Said discharge-hole is adapted to esvoir H. tablish communication between the interior of tubular member K and the interior of bucket orreservoir II, and said hole is adapted to be closed, to cut off said communication, by means of a plug or stopper L that is attached to the one end of a chain or liexible connection M that leads upwardly through tubular member K to and over a pulley or sheave M supported from and at the upper end of said tubular memberand thence leads downwardly to within convenient reach of the person washing or bathing. Tubular member K, at its lower end, is provided with one or more lateral perforations K that establish open relation between theinteror of member K and the interior of receptacle I.

By the construction just described, it is obvious that the person washing or bathing can obtain water at any desired temperature. If he inds the water in reservoir 1-I too hot he simply pulls upon chain M, thereby opening the discharging-hole in the bottom of receptacle I and effecting the flow of cold water into reservoir H, and, if desired, he can remove or drain some of the hot water from reservoir H by opening the cocks or valves N' in the valved drain'pipe N with which said reservoir is preferably provided.

I would also remark that a bath consisting of a warm or hot spray followed by a cold spray, is a favorite with many people, and, it

is obvious, that my improved apparatus is admirably suited for this kind of bath.

In a washing or bathing apparatus, the combination with a perforated hose or tube adapted to discharge a spray of water, a watersupply-bucket or reservoir H provided with a valved drain passage-way and a valved hose or tube connecting the aforesaid sprayinghose or tube with said bucket or reservoir, of a pail or receptacle supported by bucket or reservoir II and having a discharge-opening, a plug or stopper for closing said opening, and means Aatt-ached to the stopper for actuating the latter to open, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a washing or bathing apparatus, the combination with a perforated hose or tube adapted to discharge aspray of water, a watersupply-bucket or reservoir II provided with a valved drainfpassageway, and a valved hose or tube connecting the aforesaid sprayinghose or tube with said bucket or reservoir, of a pail `or receptacle I supported by bucket or reservoir H, an upright tubular member K supported within receptacle I, the lower end of said tubular member being in open relation with the interior of receptacle I, and the latter having `a discharging opening I2, a plug or stopper L'for closing saiddischarging-opening, chain or-fiexible connection M and pulley or sheave M', all arranged and operating substantially as shown and for the purpose specified.
