Description

(No Model.) I
S. B. WALDORF.
FENCE P'OSI'. No. 416,524. Patented Dec. 3, 1889.
ATTE5'T" I INVENTOR M 5. BWEELORF UNIT D STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL B. VVALDORF, OF HARRISTOVVN, ILLINOIS.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFIGATIOIQT forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,524, dated December 3, 1889.
Application filed March 13, 1889. Serial No. 303,141. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. WALDORF, of the town of Harristown, county of Macon, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to posts composed in part of wood and in part of metal; and it is my object to enable such parts to be easily and strongly secured together and to permit the use of comparatively light material in their construction.
In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my complete device. Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of a fragment of a post, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 00 in Fig. 2 and somewhat enlarged.
The post a-is of wood, and it has the slot 1) and the oblique hole 0. penetrating bar 61 is preferably spiral below the post a. It has the straight portion a extended centrally through the slot, the deflection f, the straight portion g, parallel with and closely adjacent to the side of the post, and the diverging portion h, extended through hole 0. The wire band 2' encircles the bar in the slot, is coiled on itself, as shown in Fig. 3, and has its ends joined together in such manner that it closely embraces the post and retains the bar in the slot.
The brace a is a duplication of the post,
The metallic earthseparately inserted into the ground and afterward connected. Posts so formed are applicable to various kinds of fence, and a removable fence may be constructed by connecting the panels and the braces to the posts in a readily-detachable manner.
A firm connection is readily established between the wood and the metal, and comparatively thin wooden posts may be used.
I claim 1. In fence-posts, in combination, post a, having slot 17 and hole 0, bar cl, having the straight portion 6 in the slot of the post, the portion g, parallel with the side of the post, the diverging portion h in hole 0, and the wire band 2', retaining the bar in the slot, as set forth.
2. In fence-posts, in combination, post a, having bar d connected thereto, as set forth, and the similarly-constructed brace a, secured to said post and provided with bar (1, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I sign my name in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
SAMUEL B. VVALDORF.
