Application September 16, 1957, Serial No. 684,114
2 Claims. (Cl. 132-46) This invention relates to a holder and cap device for ladys pony-tail hair-do.
The principal object of the invention is directed to the provision of a device for holding a ladys hair in ponytail style which is in cap form for the ornamentation of the rear of the head.
According to novel features of the invention, the device is in the form of a hair dressing accessory which may have any desired ornamental appearance, and is constructed and arranged to form and hold the hair in ponytail style.
The novel construction of the device includes a form or foundation which may be made from inexpensive material such as cardboard or the like. Such material is sufiiciently pliable or bendable for the invention, not being rigid, and is light in weight and readily formed.
The foundation will be covered with fabric or the like,
and provided with such ornamentation a may be desired.
The device is economical to produce and is readily and easily applied to or removed from the hair. 7
Various changes and modifications may be made in the form of the device without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and will be described in the form at present preferred in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. l, is a rear elevational view of the holder-cap device embodying the novel features of the invention;
Fig. 2, is a side elevational view of the device shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3, is a sectional view showing fabric applied to the foundation of the device; and
Fig. 4, is a perspective view showing the device applied to a ladys hair.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, the novel features of the invention will be described in detail.
The device 2 of the invention in a general way includes a disc 4 and a tube 6 extending outwardly therefrom, and integral therewith. Such may be called a foundation or form.
The foundation may be formed from various materials but rather thin cardboard will be satisfactory for the purpose of the invention, as such material is relatively stiff and somewhat bendable as distinguished from rigid material.
The disc and tube may be secured together by any suitable means such as by stitching, adhesive or the like. Or said disc and tube may be formed from a single section of material.
The disc is slotted radially at 8 while the tube is slotted longitudinally thereof, as at 10.
The tube 6 is formed to receive and surround strands of hair at the rear of the head arranged in pony-tail style. The disc 4 is arranged to overlie the hair at the rear of the head as it extends into the tube, all as shown in Fig. 4.
Securing means are provided which may take the form of flexible members 12. These will be secured to the device in some suitable manner, as by stitching or the The foundation will be covered with various materials such as various types, and colors of fabric, or the like. The foundation is represented by 2 in Fig. 3, and covering material therefor is represented by 14.
The covered device may be ornamented by various means cooperating with the covering material to provide the ornamental effect desired. Such means may include beads, devices formed from ribbon, or other material.
There are a vast variety of ornamental materials suitable for providing numerous ornamental efiects.
The device will be light in weight, inexpensive to produce, and readily and easily applied to or removed from the head.
The tie means makes it possible for the tube to snugly embrace the pony-tail closely adjacent the head so that the hair is held in the style desired. The construction is such that the tie members will enhance the dish formation of the disc and cause the disc to lie against the hair.
The tube and disc are slotted in such a way that, with the device secured by the tie members, the diverging edges of the disc at the sides of the slot do not come together or overlap. The arrangement is such that the diverging edges ofthe slot in the disc providea space therebetween at the back of the head and neck below the pony-tail. Overlapping edges would, be a source of discomfort at the rear portion of the neck.
Various changes may be made in the form of the device and it is desired to be limited, if at all, by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description.
We claim:
1. In a holder and cap device for a ladys pony-tail hair-do comprising in combination, a fiat disc fabricated of resilient material and shaped to a generally circular outline, said fiat disc having an aperture located eccentrically of the axis thereof and communicating with a radially disposed slot extending from the aperture to the outer peripheral edge of said flat disc, a circular tube having a longitudinal axis and extending outwardly from said fiat disc and being integral therewith, said tube being slotted longitudinally thereof, said tube being secured at one end thereof to said flat disc and being disposed in a plane at a substantially right angle to the longitudinal axis of said fiat disc, opposite sides of the radial slot of said flat disc relatively diverging outwardly from the sides of the slot of said tube at the juncture of said fiat disc and tube, the opening defined by the aperture of said flat disc and the opening through said tube being adapted for the extension therethrough of a pony tail at the rear of the head with said flat disc being adapted to overlie the hair of the head adjacent the pony tail, and releasable interengageable tie means being disposed around said tube adjacent the juncture of said flat disc and tube for drawing said tube snugly about the pony tail enclosed therewithin and holding said tube and flat disc against the hair of the wearer.
2. In a holder and cap device for decorating and accentuating a ladys pony-tail hair-do comprising, a flat disc'fabricated of resilient material and shaped to a generally circular outline, said flat disc having an aperture located eccentrically of the axis thereof and communicating with a radially disposed slot extending from the aperture to the outer peripheral edge of said flat disc, a circular sleeve having a longitudinal axis and extending outwardly from said flat disc and being integral therewith, said sleeve being slotted longitudinally thereof, said sleeve being secured at one end thereof to said flat disc and being disposed in a plane at a substantially right angle to the longitudinal axis of said flat disc, opposite sides of the radial slot of said fiat disc relatively diverging outwardly from the sides of the slot of said sleeve at the juncture of said fiat disc and sleeve, the opening defined by the aperture of said fiat disc and the opening through said sleeve being adapted for the extension of a selected quantity of hair at the back of the head with said fiat disc being adapted to conform generally to the shape of the back of the head and to overlie the hair adjacent the said selected quantity thereof, and releasable interengageable tie means being disposed around said sleeve adjacent the juncture of said flat disc and sleeve for drawing said sleeve snugly about the said selected quantity of hair enclosed therewithin and securing said sleeve and flat disc relative to the hair of the wearer.
