2 Claims. V(Cl. 4,0?158) The present invention relates to a mounting device and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed.

Generally the invention comprises an elongated strip of semi-rigid material, as for example, plastic material which is preferably transparent, and various types of springy metal materials which may be of any desired color and which strip is of generally U-shaped cross sectional area thus providing a back Wall and a front Wall integrally interconnected by a rounded Ibight portion at their lower ends. The back wall is of greater width than the front wall and is serrated at its free end portion while the front wall is provided at its upper end portion with an inturned lip directed toward the rear wall. In certain forms the invention may assume, the front Wallis notched at desired points to prevent bulging thereof. The device is useful for the mounting upon walls or the like of papers, pictures and the like and may be utilized as a picture frame. It is also useful for the mounting of pictures, exhibits and the like in, for example, notebooks, display books, salesmens catalogs, visual aids, advertising display, and the like.

It is accordingly an object of the invention to provide a device lof the character set forth which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and yet effective and efficient in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character set forth which may be readily formed into a picture frame.

Another object of the invention is to provide, in a device `of the character set forth, novel means for the prevention of bulging therein.

A `further object of the invention is to provide, in a de vice of the character set forth, novel means for attaching the same to a Wall or the like.

Other and further objects of the invention will become apparent yfrom a reading of the following specification Itaken in conjunction with the drawing, in which:

Y .2,196,690 Patented June 25, 1957 Referring more panticularly to the drawing, there is shown therein a device of the character set forth cornprising an elongated strip generally designated at 10 and being of generally U-shaped cross sectional area. The strip is provided with a rear .wall 11, va front wall 12, and a rounded bight portion 13. The front wall 12 is provided at its free end with an inwardly and downwardly extending lip 14 which is directed toward the rear wall 11 and the bight portion 13. The rear wall 11 is of greater width than the front wall 12 and that portion thereof extending Ibeyond the lip 14 is serratedgas indicated at 15.

In the operation of this form of the invention, it will be apparent that, while it may be utilized in many different ways, `one use for the same is illustrated in Figure l where several strips 10 are so mounted upon a `base material such as wall 16 as to form a frame encompassing the edges of an article 17 which may be a paper, picture or the like. The strips 10 are mounted upon the wall 16 by placing la strip of adhesive material indicated at 18, over the serrated portion 15 of -the rear wall 11. This strip 18 of adhesive material may be of any desired type such as Scotch tape or the like, and it will be apparent that the strip 18 will, in each case, adhere not only to the Wall 16 but to the serrated portions 15 of the strips 10 thus securely holding the strips in the selected posi-tions upon the Wall 16 or the like.

ln the form of the invention illustarted in Figures 4 and 5, there is shown a strip 10a which is identical in construction with the strip 10 but which is of greater length and, to overcome bulging `of the front wall 12 when so utilized in exceptional lengths as, for example, in mounting maps or the like as shown, for example, Iat 17a, is provided with cut away portions which may be V-shaped as indicated at 19 or U-shaped, as indicated at 20, it being understood that any particular strip would be provided with identical cut away portions 19 or 2t) or with some other suitable shape, it being understood further that the cut away portions are for the purpose of preventing Ibulging of the lfront wall 12 away from the rear wall 11 when the str-ips are utilized in excessive lengths, as aforesaid. In addition to preventing bulging, the cut away portions 19 or 20 have a further purpose, namely to provide means whereby the map 17a or the like may lbe additionally supported by adhesive strips 21 which may be fastened to the outer face of the outer wall 12 in such manner as to adhere to portions thereof adjacent each side of the cut away portion and to likewise adhere to the exposed portion of the map 17a lying therebetween.

Referring now to that for-m of the invention illustrated in Figures 6 and 7, it will be seen that there is provided a strip 10b having a relatively wide rear wall 22, a rounded bight portion 23 and an outer wall 24 which extends toward the rear wall 22. The rear wall 22 has integrally formed therewith a protruding serrated edge forming teeth 25.

In the operation of this form of the invention, it will be apparent that the device is peculiarly adapted to the formation of a frame, as shown, for example, in Figure 6, it being `apparent that four sections of the strip 10b may be formed into a frame as shown and mounted upon a base such as paperboard or wall 16 by means of adhesive strips 18 in the manner heretofore described.

In the forni of the invention illustrated in Figures 8 and 9 there is shown a strip 10c which is particularly adaptable to the formation of small picture frames. In this form of the invention, the strip 10c is provided with a relatively wide rear wall 26, an enlarged bight portion 27 and a foreshortened forward wall 28. The edge portion of the rear wall 26 is serrated, as indicated at 29 whereby the strips 10c may be fastened to the rear of, for example a photograph 30, as, for example, by

means of adhesive strips 31. The adhesive strips may also be utilized to fasten to the rear of .the photograph 30 an upwardly extending hanger arm 32 provided with a nail-receiving opening 33 adjacent the upper end thereof and also may be utilized'to provide the device with a depending supporting leg 34. i

While `but certain forms of the invention have been shown and described herein, it will be lreadily apparent to those skilled in the art that many minor modiiications may be made without departing from th'e'spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A device of the character described comprising a longitudinally extending strip of transparent material having a U-shaped cross sectional area, having a front wall, arear wall, a bight portion integrally interconnecting said walls, and an extended serrated portion formed integrally with the rear Wall, said serrations being identical and of suicient size to permit contact of an adhesive tape aixed upon the outer side of said serrated portion with 'Y portion.
