. 1 i This inventionrelates to jewelry ;boxes. An -object of this invention is to provide a jewelrybox comprising a base with .a housing mounted thereon having a pair of hinged closure .iinembers .and' an article lsupporting' means mounted on the-base and adapted to be positioned inside the closures whenthe latter arein their closed position.
"1 Claim. (Cl. 20644) Another object of this invention is to provide -a device of this'kind whichcan be made outof metal, plastic "or other suitable material, [and which will form an attractive article for mountingon a dresser or table.
;A furtherobject ofthis invention is to provide a device" of this kind which is adapted to releasably clamp a. ring or the like, and, is provided with means for receiving date cards to show the date of a wedding or other event.
It is the custom for a jeweler to use ring display boxes in his show window. These boxes are rather expensive and in the course of time, the velvet or other cloth covering surface used in connection with said boxes becomes faded, re-
quiring the jeweler to either scrap the entire box or return it to a factory for recovering. The present invention enables the jeweler to readily himself remove and replace the covering material, thereby in the course of time, effecting a substantial saving.
It is also intended that the box of the present invention shall provide a permanent souvenir and attractive holder for use in the home, as by a bride.
With the foregoing object in view, and others which may hereinafter more fully appear the invention consists ofthe novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, but it will be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope ofthe invention, as claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure '1 is a top plan view of a jewelry box constructed according to an embodiment of this inventionshowing the box in open position.
Figure 2 is a detail front elevation of the device.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view of the ring clamping structure.
Figure 4 is a transverse section, partly in front elevation, of the rear portion of the ring supporting member.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the box in closed position. I Figure 6 is a view, similar to Figure 3, showing the ring supporting means mounted on the base.
generally designated as I2.
Figure Tie a view, similar to Figure 6,;showing a1modified form .of.securing the ringxsupporton the base.
Figure 8 isa perspective View of the ringsupporting member removed from thehousing.
Figure 9v is. aiperspective .view. of .the box in open position.
Referringto the drawings the numeral ill designates generally a base member which is formed with stepped, or sloping marginal portions 511. The base- Ill hasrising therefrom a fixedhousing,
The, housin l2includes upright .side wa1lsl3, a double curved or humped top wall M similar to the top .of aheartshaped member and comprising two upwardly. convex semi-circular portions joined at the depressed ends thereof or center of the top wall, and a rear wall l5. The housing l2 has hingedly'secured to the forward edges of the side Walls l3 thereof, a pair of closure members or doors, generally designated as I6 and H, which are of like construction.
The closure members are formed of an outer side wall H! which is hinged as at I9 to the forward edge of a stationary housing side wall l3. The side wall I8 has secured to the forwardedge thereof, a front wall 2!], and afragmentary top wall 2| of substantially semi-circular configuration is formed integral with the side wall I8, and is secured to the front wall 20.
The lower ends 22 of the two closure top walls 2|, are adapted to abut each other in line with the central depressed portion between the semicircular portions of top wall l4 when the closures or doors are in closed position, and the inner edges of the front walls 20 are also adapted to be disposed in substantia ly abutting relation with the front walls 20 in alignment.
A knob 23 is secured to each front wall 20, and may be a jeweled knob or the like so as to provide an attractive appearance to the box when the closures are in closed position.
A ring supportirg member, generally designated as 24, is disposed on the upper side of the base Ill, and comprises a top wall or plate 25 formed with a forward, downwardly extending flange 26. The plate 25 has secured to or formed on the opposite lengthwise edges thereof downwardly extending flanges 21, and at the rear of the plate '25 there is mounted an upwardly extending box 28 which opens upwardly to form a top entrance slot and is provided in the forward wall 29 thereof with window opening 30. r A strip or card 3! is adapted to engage in th box 28 by passage through the top entrance slot, 7
are adapted to loosely engage inwardly of or he 5 in spaced relation to the inner surfaces and meet- 'ing edges of the two semi-circular top wall members I4. 7
The plate 25 has, as shown in Figure 3, a lug 34, extending downwardly therefrom formed 10 with a horizontally disposed threaded opening 35 within which a screw 36 disposed through the back or rear wall I5 of the housing [2 is adapted to be screwed and extended. The base ID, as
shown in Figure 6, is formed with a transversely 5 extending body 3'! rising from the upper surface of the base adjacent the rear thereof; and through which the screw or bolt 36 loosely engages.
In the modification shown in Figure 7, the gf} lug 34a is formed with a vertically disposed threaded opening 35a in which a vertically disposed bolt 36a is adapted to engage and in this instance the upper side 38 of the base Illa is flat from front to rear thereof.
which a pair of ring clamping jaws or plates 40 and M are adapted to loosely extend. The clamping plates 49 and 4| are pivotally mounted on a shaft or pin 42 extending between the no depending sides 27, and are yieldably held in clamping position by means of a spring 43 mounted on the pin or shaft 42 to hold the plates or jaws 4B and 4| against a ring or the like.
The plate 25 has a transversely extending slot 39 through I claim:
A display and souvenir box for rings and the like comprising in combination a base member, a housing secured thereto and a ring holding and indicia carrying platform removably connected with said housing and base member, the central upper part of said housing being sub: stantially V-shaped and the forward half of said housing being formed of a pair of doors having front, top and side surfaces, said platform having at the rear thereof an upstanding indicia carrier, the central part of the upper surface of said carrier fitting within the said central upper part of said housing.
