attachment-thereto of an elastic strap by insertion of a loop portion of such elastic strap into the connecter device 'in' a convenient manner, and byholding said loop portion in such manner that it cannot disengage itself from the connecter device. 1
Heretofore it has been customary to thread into an elongated slot of a connecter device, an elastic strapor the like and then sew the free end 'of the strap to the strap proper so as to form a loop. This method has consumed a great deal of time in the manufacture of garments such as brassieres and also in the manufacture of garters g and the'like, and because of my invention these connecting elastic "straps may be made separately inlarge quantities having the'required 100p and th-ensuch looped straps are supplied to an operator whose work it is to assemble the various 5 parts of an article of wearing apparel or other accessories. The operator merely loops into the open slot of the connecter device the loop-shaped portion of the strap and after the loop has been I thus inserted means are provided in the connecter 3o devic'e whereby the loop is prevented from coming outfof the connecter device except by intelligent guidance by the hand Various embodiments of my invention will be 7 hereinafter described and shown in the accom- 3-5 panying drawing, and finally pointed out in the s'ubjoined claims.

Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts: throughout the various views. 50 Referring to the drawing and more particularly to Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the connecter device I5 is provided, on one side of the medianline IS, with an open slot22 and this open slot isadapted' to receive the loop-shaped end of a tape or strap and 55 tothold the same in position. One end of a loopshaped strap I1 is shown in dotted lines in Fig. l, and as shown in Fig. 3, the free end of this strap I1 is turned back upon itself so as to form a loop l8 and said free end is sewed to the strap H by stitching I9 and this loop-shaped portion l8 engages the connecter device I5. The elongated slot of the connecter device which is engaged by the loop" I8, is provided with a node which serves to press the tape or strap, as shown in dotted lines, against the leg 2| of the connecter device, and this leg 2| is provided with a curved portion 23, so thatunder' the natural operation of loop ll and the longitudinal shifting of the same in slot 22, node 2|! will first hold the loop by frictional engagement against the wall of slot 22 and such engagement will be additionally secured by the seating of end 2d of said loop in said curved portion 23,and the continuation of said curved'portion designated as 25 will prevent the strap I1 from riding out of the slot 22. It will be noted that the extreme portion 21 of the hookshaped portion is about inline with the median line I6. The loop-shaped portion I8 is: inserted between the peak of hook-shaped portion 25 and the pointed portion 28 of member and between said portions a small space exists through which the strap may be guided into said slot 22 as shown by the arrow 30. It will be noted'that these parts form a secure retainer for the-strap and into which the strap may readily enter. However, in order to remove the strap it is necessary to move the same by hand in a direction counter to that of the arrow 30. Theparts excepting the particularly shaped hook, which have just been described, however, are not essentially new, but my present invention'inclucles these described parts as part of the combination thereof which will be hereinafter described. i a
By reference to the left-hand side of median line IS, an elongated slot 3| is shown in Fig. 1, and this slot 3| is restricts-din its area by a node 32 facing a wall 33. Said wall 33 is provided with a curved portion 35 which terminates in a hooked portion 36, said hooked portion 36 facing a curved portion 31 of. central member 29. The space shown between the hooked portion 36 and curved portion 3? is such as to permit entry of a strap or looped portion, shown in dotted lines by 38 and the insertion of said looped portion is made in the direction of arrow 39, shown in Fig. 1 When the strap or looped portion is inserted fully into slot 3|, a node designated as 32 will hold the strap in position and curved portion 35 Will maintain the strap in captivity or prevent it from. coming out of slot 3! except by manual operation. The space between the hooked shaped portion 36 and curved portion 31 is just about sufficient topermit the passage of the strap or loop single ply, as shown in Figure 1. As a result of the arrangement shown, instead of having one of these connecter devices provided with an elongated opening into which a strap is inserted which necessitates. the formation of a loop on the strap, after the strap has been inserted into the eyelet, by my improved form said loop-containing strap, which may be first made in large quantities, may be readily inserted in position and be maintained there against the manipulations attendant upon the connector device while in serv- 1 ice by the wearer.
In Figs 4 to 12 various forms of this combination connecter, are shown.
As will be seen in Fig. 4, the central member 29 is bent or curved in a direction from the median line towards the right whereby strap I! is held more securely by this curved portion designated by 49. A strap l'l may be inserted in the direction of arrow 4| and strap such as 33, may be inserted in the direction of the arrow 42. It will be particularly noted that the hook-shaped portion 36 is shaped so as to: point to and be in the direction of the curved portion 31 of the central member 29 which is provided with nodes 32 and 20 on either side thereof.
In Fig. 5, there is shown this combined connecter and central member, in which the latter member is not curved as shown in Fig. 4, but the right hand portion of this embodiment resembles that shown in Fig. 1. In this embodiment the slots 22 and 3| are still further restricted than the same slots depicted in Fig. 1. In Fig. 5, nodes 43 are provided on portions of the connecter device designated as 44 and 45 thereof. These nodes 43 cooperate with nodes 20 and 32 to hold the strap portions in position. As before stated, the hooked or curved portion 36 of the leg 44 faces in the direction of curved portion 31 of central member 29. v
a In Fig. 6 of the drawing, legs 44 and 45 of the connecting member are each provided with inwardly pointed nodes 46. Member 29 is. also provided with a pair of nodes on either side thereof designated as 41, and it will be again noted that the hook-shaped portion 36 faces the curved end 31 of the central member 29.
In Fig. 7 a connecter member is. shown in. which central member 29 shows nodes of somewhat fiattened shape, and designated by 5D and 5!, said nodes being in position opposite to that-of nodes 52, and in this embodiment also the hook-shaped portion 36 faces curved portion 31 of the central member. r
The embodiment depicted in Fig. 8 of the drawing, shows curved lugs and, the space between the inner portion of these curved lugs and the central member 29 is somewhat exaggerated. Such curved portions designated as. 55, permit the loops to shape themselves in curved manner as is sometimes preferred in certain uses to which this connecter device may be put. In this em bodiment it will also be seen that the hookshaped portion 36 is opposite to the curved portion 31 of the central member 29.
In the embodiment of my device shown in Fig. 9, the slots are oppositely arranged, that is, they have openings in opposite positions, the central member 2% of this embodiment being provided with nodes 20a and 32a and leg 44 thereof has a curved portion 35 in the uppermost part thereof.

In Fig. 11, the connecter device shows a portion on the right of its median line substantially like that shown in Fig. l, but the left hand side of said median line shows hook portion 36 facing portion 3'! and when a loop is inserted into the left hand slot 3! it passes through channel 59 and is held in slot 3! by curved portion 35 of leg 44.
In Fig. 12, a structure similar to that of Fig. 1 is shown, but the hook portion 36 is considerably closer to the curved surface 37, and the left side as in Fig. 11, is immediately visible as being the side to attach the elastic loop permanently, since this left side has no nodes.
In each of the embodiments, one of the eyes is intended for use with a looped strap intended for permanent connection thereto, whereas the other eye is intended for a temporary connection of a looped strap, namely, fora strap which is put on and taken off during the use of the apparel.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that a connecter is provided with parts known as nodes which hold an inserted strap or'loop in position by frictional pressure of said nodes upon the same and curved portions are provided on the legs of said connecter device which hold the strap in captivity and prevent its getting out of the slot by the natural movements exercised by the wearer, a particular feature of my improvement being that the sharpened portions forming the hook of the legs of the connecter, are directed towards the curved portions of the central member. As a result of the correlation of parts and particularly the hook-shaped portion positioned in the direction of the curved surface of the central 'member, the straps are held within the curved portions of said hook-shaped portion. On the other hand, the curved surface of the central member of the device, permits a free entrance of the strap into the elongated slots.
My invention therefore resides in the features 'just described, in which two parts of my connecting device are open to permit entry and insertion of a loop-shaped strap and are so arranged and constructed as to hold this strap therein without danger of escape during ordinary Wear, these parts being so arranged that it requires intelligent manipulation of the strap to remove it from the connecter device.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that my invention may be employed in various forms and devices, and it is clear that changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the attached claims.
What I claim is:
1. A connecter device, comprising a plate body having Walls spaced apart to form transverse loop receiving eyes, each openat one end through one edge of the plate for lateral edgewise recep- 7 tion of a looped strap, said plate body having end walls and a center wall, a hook shaped portion contiguous to the edge opening of the plate connected to each of the end walls and extending transversely of the eye toward the center Wall and having a curved interior seat, a node connected to a wall intermediate the length thereof within an eye, and extending into the eye and having its extremity spaced in respect to an opposite wall, said wall in conjunction with said node and hooked portion being adapted to secure the strap in said eye against accidental removal therefrom, said eye being adapted to receive the strap intended for temporary connection there with, and a curved portion on the center wall opposed to the hooked portion of the other edge to provide an easy entrance for the strap into said eye, and to provide an obstruction to the strap against accidental removal-from said eye, said last named eye being adapted to receive the looped strap intended for permanent connection therewith.
2. A connecter device, comprising a plate body having walls spaced apart to form transverse loop receiving eyes, each open at one end through one edge of the plate for lateral edgewise reception of a loop-shaped strap, said plate body having end walls and a center wall, a hook shaped portion contiguous to the edge opening of the plate connected to each of the end wallsand extending transversely of the eyes toward the center wall and having curved interior seats, nodes connected to said Walls intermediate the length thereof, extending into the eyes and having extremities in spaced relation to their opposed walls within the eyes, and curved portions on the center wall opposite to said hooked portions on the adjacent end walls and providing easy insertion of the looped straps into the respectiveeyes, said oppositely disposed curved and hooked portions being adapted to. retain the looped straps against accidental removal, one of said hooked portions With its opposite curved portion providing an obstruction for one of said loop-shaped straps to hold the same in permanent connection, and the other of said hooked portion and its respective curved portion arranged to provide an easy ingress and egress of the strap intended for temporary use.
