This invention relates to a unique childs toy which is especially adapted for me by little girls and has more specific reference to a wheel supported vehicle of a walking attendant steered type expressly constructed to function either as a carousal or so-called merry-go-round, the same being designed to accommodate dolls or the like.

Without attempting to give a rsum of the state of the art to which the invention pertains,

I would say that I am aware that movable and portable toys of somewhat general merry-goround types have been patented. Under the circumstances, in perfecting the ideals ofmy own developments and conceptions I have perfected what I believe to be a novel contribution to this line of endeavor in that it is characterized by a handle-equipped wheel-supported platform constituting a carriage for a unique turn-table, which turn-table serves as a rotor for carrying doll accommodation seats as well as an ornamental detachable overhead canopy or umbrella.

structurally speaking, one feature of the arrangement is dedicated to the particular construction of the turn-table and the special fixture means with which it is provided to render it susceptible of accommodating the two-way doll chairs or seats as well as the companion selectively usable canopy.

A further feature of construction has to do with the particular developments of the two-way or double-type seat for dolls or other toys, said seats being bodily detachable, interchangeable and so made as to allow the dolls to face the direction of rotation according to the direction of movement of the vehicle as a unit.

An additional development has to do with the particular construction and arrangement of the clutch-type gearing and novel pulley and belt arrangement believed to be indispensable in a device of this type to promote satisfactory driving of the turn-table from one of the vehicle wheels.

In addition to this, there is the canopy unit and its special adapter means designed for effective cooperation with existing brace means forming a part of the turn-table assemblage.

Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and drawings.

I As'a matter of convenience of introduction to the detailed description, I call attention first to Figure 5. Taking this into consideration with the 20 other figures it will be observed that the numeral H designates a suitable platform constituting'a part-of the vehicle, and that attached to this, by suitable hangers I2, are the stub axle portions l3 of the wheels l4 and I5. I distinguish these 25 wheels merely because the wheel l5 serves as the driving means for the turn-table arrangement whereas the wheel M is merely a free idling member. I might say in this connection that the axle is of the wheel [5 is provided with a beveled gear 30 !E for power transmission purposes. At the front of the platform, as shown in Figure 1, is a suitably swivelled caster or steering wheel l1. Also at this point is an appropriate handle l8 and this is attached to the platform by any convenient 35 or practicable yoke and hinge means. The numerals i9 merely designate bracing blocks on the underside of the platform board while the numeral 20 designates a central depending stabilizing bearing or device. This is located be- 40 neath a suitable bushing or bearing- 2l mounted in the central portion or the platform to accommodate the vertical stabilizing pin or shaft 22. This shaft serves as a guide and retention member for the rotary turn-table 23 and its associated appurtenances. Incidentally, the pin 22 need not necessarily be turnable since it is more in the nature of a guide member. The turn-table 23 is in the form of a circular block of wood whose periphery is groov'edso that it functions asa power take-off pulley for the rubber propulsion belt 24. This belt cooperates with an adjacent or complemental smaller pulley 25. The pulley 25 is mounted on the driven vertical shaft 26 operable in and out in a guide slot 21. The numeral 52 designates a back plate which is hingedly attached by arms 53 to the spaced parallel sidewalls of the chair proper. This allows the backing plate to swing over from the position shown in Figure 10 to the opposite side and provide a unique convertible chair or seat. 7

A doll toy of the class described comprising a wheel supported platform, a concentrically disposed fixedly mounted spindle attached to and rising from said platform, a turntable including a marginal grooved disk-pulley attached to said spindle above said platform, a carrier unit including a central hub portion superimposed upon and directly attached to said pulley and having upstanding radial arms terminating in horizontal doll chair adapter elements, brace members for said arms attached thereto, said platform having an eccentric arcuate slot, a driven shaft mounted for sliding and rotation in said slot, a relatively small power-propulsion pulley carried by said shaft, a flexible belt trained over said pulleys, said shaft being provided with a pinion, one of the supporting wheels being provided with a driving gear enmeshed with said pinion, and a pivotally mounted operating lever attached to the platform and connecting with said shaft to adjust the pinion toward and from the driving gear.

In a toy doll carousal of the class described, a Wheel supported platform provided with driving and driven shafts operatively joined together, a turntable mounted for rotation on said platform, and operatively connected with said driven shaft, a spider unit having a central hub portion attached to the turntable and including upstanding outwardly diverging arms terminating in horizontal chair adapted elements, a crisscross brace attached to the spider arms and located in spaced parallelism above the platform, and a canopy including a standard having downwardly diverging arms and a cruciform base with which the arms connect, the elements forming said base being of channel-shaped cross-sectional form and releasably engaged with the members of said criss-cross brace.

As a component part of a structural assemblage of the class described, a marginally grooved disk constituting a combined pulley and turntable, a unitary one-piece spider structure having a centralized plate portion superimposed on and directly attached to said turn-table and provided with marginal radially disposed upstanding diverging arms, the free ends of said arms terminating in horizontal adapter elements to accommodate interchangeable and. detachable doll chairs, and a substantially cruciform brace having the ends of its arm portions attached to the spider arms in the manner and for the purposes described.

7. As a unitary structural and component part of a mobile toy carousal of the class described, a detachable canopy unit including an umbrella, a vertically disposed central supporting stem for the umbrella having base means at the lower end thereof, said base means embodying a horizontally disposed cruciform member, the parts of which are disposed in intersecting relationship and are channel-shaped in cross-sectional form, and further including inclined brace members secured to the outer ends of the channel-shaped arms and attached at their inner ends to the intermediate portion of said stem.
