Description
Dec. 1, 1931. o. F. BERG PAINT BRUSH PROTECTOR Filed Dec. 13. 1929 Patented Dec. 1, 1931 UNr'rEn STATES OSCAR F. BERG, or BLOOMFIELD, NEW JERSEY PAINT BRUSH rnornoron. 7
Application filed December 13,1929. Serial No. 413,904.
This invention relates to paintbrush pro tectors designed to prolong the useful life of paint brushes by preventing the distortion of I the bristle end of the brush, and has as its object to provide a device of this character consisting of few and simple parts, which lend themselves readily to economical manufacturefrom thin sheet metal by suitable simple tools and dies, is compact and complete in itself, efficient and positive in operation, and may be readily applied to andremoved from paint brushes. v 7
Another object of my invention is to provide a paint brush protector consisting of a body member made from a single blank of suitable material, said body member having a front, a rear and a side wall.
The longitudinal edges of the front and rear walls are provided with outwardly extending flanges adapted to be engaged'by the longitudinal channels of a slide plate, which thus forms the other side wall of the device. These and other advantageous objects, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple and practical construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and exhibited in the accompanying drawings,
forming part hereof, and in which:
Fig. 1 represents a perspective view of the body member of my improved paint brush protector, showing the slide plate in position for being moved into engagement with the outwardly extending flanges of the front an rear walls of the body member.
Fig. 2 represents a top plan viewlof the body member with the slide plate thereon, and 1' Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the body member showing a paint brush. positioned therein. g
As shown in the drawings, my device consists, essentially, of the wedge shaped'body member 1, and thecorrespondingly shaped slide plate 2, said body'member being preferably formed froma single blank of material to present the front and rear walls 3 and 4 and side wall 5, the longitudinal-edges of said front and rear walls being provided with outwardly extending flanges 6 and 7 adapted to be slidingly engaged by the longitudinal channels 8-8 of the slide plate 2.
In using my improved paintbrush protector, the bristle end E of the paint brush B is inserted into the body. member 1 through the open longitudinal side 9 thereof, the brush tip E resting just short of the lower, narrow, open end 10 of the body member 1, (see Fig. 3). The longitudinally channelled plate 2 is then slid into engagement with the outwardly extending flanges 6 and 7 of the front and rear walls 3 and 4 of the body member 1, drawing said walls over the bristle end of the brush within the body member 1, holding the same in wedge-shaped form, thus providing the thin tip which is a valuable feature in painting. The slide plate 2 is inwardly bent at its lower end 12 to prevent excessive movement of the slide plate on the body member.
The side wall 5 of the body member 1 may be provided with-an aperture 11 for suspending the body member for drying purposes, or toimmerse the open end 10 of the body member 1 in oil or other liquid which the bristle end of the brush is to absorb while the brush is not in use. 7 I
The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as restrictive or limitative of the invention, v of which obviously an embodiment maybe constructed including many modifications without departing from the general scope herein indicated and denoted in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what 35 I claim as new and desire to secure by Letter Patent, is: z
1. A' paint brush protector comprising a body member formed from a single blank of material to provide a front, a rear and a side wall, and a slide plate adapted to have sliding engagement with the longitudinal edges of said front and rear walls to draw them together. r
2. A; paint brush protector comprising a body member having a front, a rear and a side wall, the longitudinal edges of said front andrear walls being provided with outwardly extending flanges, and aslide plate provided with longitudinalchannels adapted to have sliding engagement With said flanges to draw said Walls together.
3. A paint brush protector comprising a Wedge-shaped body member adapted to receive the bristle end of a brush, said body member comprising a front, a rear and a side Wall, and a wedge-shaped slide plate adapted to have sliding engagement with the 1ongitudinal edges of said front and rear walls to draw the Walls together to snugly hold the bristle end of the paint brush Within the body member in the form of a Wedge.
OSCAR F. BERG.
