Description

w; J. vx'r'r.
SHOE-FASTENING. No. 178,092. r Patented. May30,1l876.
UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
WILLIAM J. VITT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN S HOE-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,092, dated May 30, 1876; application filed April 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. VIT'r, of the city, county,.and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shoe-Fastening, of which the following is a specification:
The. accompanying drawing represents a perspective view of a shoe with my improved shoe-fastening.
My invention relates to an improved fastening for shoes of all kinds, by which the shoe is neatlyand tightly fitted to the lfoot, the fastening being entirely covered and out of sight.
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing, A represents'a shoe, Whose flap is fastened to the upper by a number of tubular clips, B, that are sewed, riveted, or otherwise applied to the shoe. The clips B of the flap and upper are arranged to alternate with each other, and connected by a string, 0, that is secured at the lower end by a knot to the lowermost clip or fastened to the shoe, as desired. The string is then passed through all the clips, the upper end giving readily for the opening of the flap in putting on or taking off the shoe, and being taken hold of to draw the string and close the flap tightly to the upper. The end of the string is applied to and rigidly retained by a ening device for shoes obtained.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of tubular clips-B, clamp D, and eyelet a, all arranged in connection with shoe, asshown and described, to allow the string .to be applied, in the manner specifled.
WILLIAM J 2 VlTT.
