D. SETTLE KEY CONTAINER Filed Aug. 10, 1927 INVENTOR ATTO R N EY Patented July 31, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
KEY CONTAINER.
Application filed August 10, 1927. Serial No. 212,087.
This invention relates to'improvements in key containers, an object being to provide a device for conveniently holdin a number of keys, and thus reduce to a minimum, danger of loss.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character having means by which the keys may be readily attached or removed, the construction being such as to permit of the device being conveniently carried in the pocket.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to
be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention showing a key extended at eachend of the container and also showing by dotted lines the position of the movable plate when inserting or removing a key.
Figu
Figure 3is an enlarged transverse sectional view.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the invention with the parts separated.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference characters 10 and 11 indicate a pair of spring plates, the plate 10 being hereinafter referred to as the rigid plate and the plate 11 as the movable plate.
The plate IOis provided centrally of its length with a rectangular opening 12, which is adapted to receive the rectangu ar reduced end 13 of a spacing member 14. The reduced end 13 of the member 14 is inserted within the opening 12 and this end is then riveted or upset as shown at 15 in Figure 3 of the drawings. The member 14 and plate 10 are thus rigidl connected. The plate 10 is further provi ed at each end with an openin 16 and these openings receive the reduce ends of key posts 17, the said reduced ends being1 rlveted or upset as indicated at 18, so t at the plate 10 and posts 17 are rigidly connected. I
The plate 11 is rovided with a central openin 19 adapte to receive the reduced rounde end 20 of the member 14 and this end. is upset as shown at 21, so that the plate re 2 is an edge view of the invention. g
spring plates,
11 will be pivotally mounted upon the memher 14. One end of the plate 11 is provided w1th an elongated slot 22 which removably receives the free end of one of the posts 17 while the opposite end of the plate is provided with a similar slot 23 to receive the free endof the other post 17. As shown in Figure 2 of the drawings the plates 10 and 11 are slightly convex to increase their sprlng tension, the tendency being to force the ends of the plates inward or toward one another so that the ends of the posts 17 will normally be positioned within the slots 22 and 23. The ends of the plates may be readily disengaged from the posts 17 for the purpose of removing or replacing keys from orupon the posts.
It is referred to provide the posts 17 w th was ers 24. These washers are ada ted to be placed between the keys and orm spacing washers. In addition, they also provide friction surfaces for frictional engagement w1th the keys, and these washers toether with the plates 10 and 11 serve to yieldingly hold the keys against pivotal movement. The keys Wlll thus remain between the plates, until manually removed.
Mounted upon one of the plates 17 is a relatively small plate 25. This plate provides means for conveniently attaching a chain to prevent loss of the container.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed 1s:
1 A key container comprising a pair of spring plates, a spacing member extending from and having one of itsends secured to one of the plates and its other end engaged with the other late, and key posts at o posite ends of an secured to one of said plittes and having a detachable connection with th other of said plates.
2. A ke container comprising a pair of a spacing member extending from and having one of its ends secured to one of said plates and its other end having ivotal connection with the other plate,
key posts at opposite ends of and seplates and having a.
8.11 cured to one of sal detachable connection with the other of said site ends of and secured to one of said plates plates. and having a detachable connection with the 3. A key container comprising a pair of other of said plates and combined friction 10 spring plates, a spacing member extending and spacing washers mounted upon the key 5 from and having one of its ends secured to posts.
