This invention relates to improvements in garment retainers, more particularly adapted lor use in Wardrobe trunlrs. i

Trunks of the Wardrobe type are usually provided with wardrobe hangers, and the garments draped thereon hang downwardly and are engaged inedially or' their length bv u retainer tor niaintaining the garments in place during transportation. E

lt is one the objects the present invention to provide an improved form ol garment retainer /j means forhpositively maintaining the etainer in ad] usted position and lor relieving the locking bolts of the strain of the load.

A further object ol' the invention is to provide a garmei'it retainer having its garment engaging face formed oi' a yielding n'iaterial to eliminate injury to the garments.

A further object oit the invention is to provide a garment. retainer Which may be easily adjusted to various positions ot use or removed trom the trunk when desired.

A further object ol the invention is to provide a garment retainer which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted tor the purpose described.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the improved garment retainer and its parts and combinations as set iorth in the claims, and all equivalents thereof.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates the Wardrobe section of a Wardrobe trunk and (i the open front portion thereof. Guide members 7 mounted on the inner opposite sides or the trunk section and extending from the front to the rear por tions ot said section are spaced 'from the side walls by the olj'set end portions 7 ot' the guide and secured thereto by rivets or screws 8. The .said bolts are olf sui'iicient lengthV toextend through the guide members and also through the angular end portions 13 of the extensions 12, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and The inner side of the retainer bar is provided with a cushion member 18 Which yielilii'igly engages the garments.

iillhen the bolts are in locliing engagement with the guide members, the extensions Will be held in the notches and any outward strain on the retainer bar Will be transmitted di rertly to the extension member 12 and thus relieve the bolts of the direct strain. ln adjusting, it is only necessary to release the bolts from the guide members and then move the retainer to the position desired and then release the bolts to lock the parts together.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the garment retainer is of very simple construction and is Well adapted for the purpose described.

What i claim as my invention is:

1. The combination with a Wardrobe trunk section, of a. garment retainer therefor, comprising guide members connected to the opposite inner sides of said trunk section and having bolt openings and upper edge recesses between the openings, a retainer bar positioned between the guide members, extension members'mounted on the opposite end portions of the bar and having portions which extend through some of the recesses to take the outward strain of the bar, and bolts mounted on the opposite end portions of the retainer bar and lockinglyy entering the bolt openings, and engaging the extension members.

2. The combination with a Wardrobe trunk section, of a garment retainer therefor, comprising guide members connected to the opposite inner sides of said trunk section and having` bolt openings and upper edge recesses between the openings, a retainer bar positioned between the guide members, extension members mounted on the opposite end portions of the bar and having; portions which extend through some of the recesses to take the outward strain of the bar` and also having' angular portions provided with bolt openings, and bolts mounted on the opposite endV portions of the retainer bar and extendingthrough the boltopenings of the `guide members and the extension members.

The combination with a wardrobe trunk section, of a garment retainer therefor, comprising guide members having oftset portions conneeted to the opposite inner sides of the trunk section, said guide members having lines of bolt openings and upper edge vertically extending` recesses between said openings, a retainer bar positioned between the guide members, extension members mounted on the opposite end portions of the bar and extending' through some of the recesses to take the outward strain on the bar, said extensions also having right angular end parts formed with bolt openings which will register with any of the bolt openings of the guide members, and spring actuated bolts mounted on oppo site end portions of the retainer bar and locking-ly entering some of the openings of the guide members and the openings of the extension members.

A retainer bar Construction, eomprisingy a. pair of spaced guide members having bolt openings and edge recesses, a retainer bar member positioned between the guide members, extension members mounted on the opposite outer end portions of the bar and extending through some of the recesses and havingangular end portions provided with bolt openings, and bolts mounted on the opposite end portions of the retainer bar and extending through some ot the guide member bolt openings and also through the bolt openings of the extension members.
