Specification of Letters Patent. i Patnged A116322, 1922 Application led May 7, 1921. Serial No. 467,630.
lowing is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
' This invention relates to toys, and particularly to that variety of toys wherein a ring or like element is mounted for rotation upon a handle which carries iigures, means being'provided whereby the ring may be rotated or oscillated upon a movement of the handle. n
The general object of this invention is to provide a very simple and attractive toy of this character which may be cheaply made and which will be of considerable amusement to children.
A Jfurther obj ect is to provide a construction of this kind having an operating handle and two rings disposed in intersecting planes at right angles to each other and mounted upon gimble joints, one of these rings being provided with a weight and carrying figures whereby as the handle is manipulated or given a slight turning movement, the two rings will swing with relation to each other and will have a rotatory movement relative to the'handle.
Other objects will appear in the course of the ollowing description.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure toy, the ring 13 being partly broken away;
Figure 2 is an elevation of the toy;
Figure 3 is Figure 1.
Referring to these drawings, 10 designates the shank of the handle, which is preferably made of wire, and is provided with a handle proper 11 at one end. The opposite end of the wire is angularly bent, as at 12, and rotatably mounted upon this angular portion 12 is a ring 13 which may be made of wood or any other suitable material and may have any suitable diameter and width, this ring being provided at diametrically opposite points with inwardly extending bearing pins 14, these bearing pins being 1 is an elevation of my improved i a section on the line 3 3 of' disposed in valignment with each other and in a direction at right angles to the direction of the angularly bent supporting portion 12 of the shank. y y
' Disposed within the ring 13 and 'disposed normally in a position approximately -at right angles theretoV and mounted upon the pins 11i Jior `oscillation thereonis airing 15 which is also preferably made of wood and which has at one point in its diameter the` weight 16. This weight is renderedinvisible in any suitable manner, as ltor instance by painting it so as to resemble the wood of the ring 15.' Mounted upon the ring 15 lat various points are the figures 17 which may be of any suitable character and may be made of tin, pasteboard, cardboard, or the like. These figures are tacked or otherwise attached to the ring.
The pins 14 enter suitable sockets 0r bearings formed in the y ring 15 so that these rings 13 and 15 t0- gether have a movement of rotation around the portion 12 of the shank, while the ring 15 has a movement of oscillation relative .to the'ring 14 and in the plane of the portion 12.
In the use of this device, the handle `11 is grasped 4by the child andl the handle given a turning movement and this will cause the rotation of both sets of rings around the shank 10, and the shifting of the vweight 16 relative to the center will cause the rotation of ring 13 around its pivotal axis 12 and the oscillation of ring 15.
I claim 1. A toy of the character described comprising a handle provided with a shank angularly bent at one end, a ring rotatably mounted upon the angular bent portion ofthe shank for rotation therearound, a secondl ring disposed within the first ring and normally extending in a plane at right anglesthereto, the second ring being pivotally mounted upon the iirst ring and being provided with a weight at one portion of its circumference, and figures attached to the second named ring. v
2. A toy of the character described comprising a handle having a shank, the eX- tremity of the shank being angularly bent at right angles to the body of the shank, a
ring through which the shank diametrically
