MAILING TUBE.
Application filed September 3, 1921.
To aZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RYLAND T. DODGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chester, in the county of Chesterfield and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mailing Tubes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. v
It is the purpose ofthe present invention to provide an improved device of this kind which saves space and. is stronger than round tubes due to the triangle shape in cross section. Furthermore a tube vof this character can be cheaply made, and may be opened like a letter, by tearing a flap.
Another purpose is to provide a mailing tube, wherein a flap carried by the tube may be inserted in a typewriter, and the address applied. y y
yStill a further purpose is the provision of a lmailing tube having its ends closed, but which'may be opened easily for inspection at the post office.
It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitative and that while stillA keeping within the scope of the invention, any desiredy modifications of detail and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to circumstances. The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will hereinafter be set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. f
In the drawings: Figure l is view in perspectiveof a mailing tube constructed in accordance withthe invention, showing the saine addressed and closed and ready to be mailed;
on line 2`2 of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 1`; and Y Figure 4 is a plan view of the blank forining the tube.
Referring to the drawings, l designates' a blank paper folder of elongated shape, provided with a flap 2, which is designed to roll about the mailing tube and sealed to the body of the paper wrapper as at 3.
Secured by suitable adhesive material to the paper wrapper is a blank of relatively heavy cardboard 4, which is slightly shorter and of less width than the wrapper:l .l The `cardboard sealing the flap,
elongated paper seriai No. 498,246.
mailing tube blank is scored on the lines to assume a triangle shape in cross section.
e paper wrapper is secured to the cardboard adhesively between the scored lines 5 and 6. i
vWhen' mailing articlesin the tube, such as newspapers orother printed inatter, they are y. I
in a small compass andr rolled or Jfolded placed within the which the edges 7 brought together, wrapped around,
cardboard blank, after and 8 of the blank are lthen the wrapper is body of the paper wrapperare thenturned over and inserted into the tube, so as to close the ends of ing displacement of the contents.
p If desired, however, the tube may lirst be folded, or brought into shape yby bringing the edges 7 and 8 together and wrapp'ingthe` Vpaper wrapper around the tube andsealing it, and afterward permit the contents to be carried inthe tube to be inserted in one end or the other of the tube.
then be folded method 'for arranging the mailed vmay be employed. .l
It is obvious that the flap 2 is'of such a size as to permit itto be inserted in a type- In this case the ends of the body of the paper wrapper may i over and into the tube. Either f articles to rbe f a a 5.,'andl 6,y so as f to permit the cardboard blank to be folded Y and the flap 2 sealed. After 'y the ends of the elongated thel tube, thereby preventwriter and the outer face addressed. Flir-` therniore the mailing tub e may be easily opened by simply tearing the Hap, or by lifting the ends of the. wrapper, hence per# mitting access to the tube through the'ends. 1 Th a folder of elongated relatively thick fibre being'scored longi- In a mailing tube, form constructed vof material, said folder e invention having been set forth,what i' `is claimed as being useful Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view tudinally, thereby causing three elongated sections, which, when a wrapper securedto the outer face of one of the. folder is closed,l cause to be formed a tube triangular in shape,` y 1,00Y
