and it is the primary object of the invention to improve the construction of carriers of this type to simplify the construction and increase the efficiency thereof by reducing to a minimum the frictional resistance as a drawer is moved outward from and into its casing.
It is a further object ofthe invention to provide a carrier of this type in which the drawer is carried or supported upon rollers whereby the drawer is rigidly supported in all positions on the carrier and the drawer with the load carried thereby is carried upon the rollers substantially centrally thereof with the load at all times equalized upon the rollers.
A further object of the invention isA to provide a drawer carrier or support of this type in which the drawer is releasably connected to the carrier whereby it may be readily and quickly remove-d without the necessity of removing any parts such as screws or the like.
In carrying out the invention I provide 'a guide-or guides in the form of a channel bar supported upon the frame of a casing below a drawer with the open side in the channel bar uppermost and the flanges of the channel bar having inwardly offset portions to extend parallel with the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges, which offset portions with the connecting portion ofthe flanges constitute opposite runways for rollers to support an extensible supporting slide for the drawer, the said slide consisting of a pair of releasably connected sections, one section being in the form of a channel bar engaging in the opening in the guide with the open side uppermost to have limited to and fromovement and the flanges of said channel bar having a portion extending outwardly to constitute a runway for rollers to support said slide section in the guide and an inwardly extending portion to constitute a runway for rollers, the said I section having rollers to run upon the runways formed by the inwardly extending portion of the guide anges; the other slide section engages in the first slide section and .is supported upon rollers therein to vhave limited to and fro movementv and having rollers to run upon the runway formed by the inwardly extending portion of the flanges of the first section.
As a preface to a detailed description of the figures, construction and operation of the embodiment of the invention as shown in the drawings, itis to be understood that while in the drawings there is shown a drawer supported by a pair of carriers at the bottom adjacent opposite sides, these carriers are in duplicate and identical and -a detailed description'of the construction and operation of one of said carriers will be suiicientfor a clear understanding of the invention. Furthermore, while two carriers are shown as supporting the drawer in case of narrow drawers a single carrier centrally of the drawer will suffice.

The embodiment of the drawer carrier as illustrated in the drawings has been designed to be particularly applicable to drawers for wall cases, and the invention end-or wall being less than the height of the i chamber in which it slides to provide a space for the drawer carrier lat opposite sides of the drawer.
The drawer carrier consists of a 'channel bar guide 10 with the rear end 11 closed and secured to a casing to occupy a position below the drawer with the open side of the channel bar uppermost as shown. Each flange of this, bar has an inwardly extending offset portion 12 to constitute with the connecting portion of the flanges of the bar opposite runways or tracks for rollers to be hereinafter described.
The drawer is secured and supported by an extensible slide comprising a pair of sections 13, 14. The section 13 is bent up from a sheet of material to form substantially a channel bar with the rear end closed and each of the flanges of the bar has a part bent at right angles to extend laterally of the fl-ange, as shown at 15, and then bent upon itself to provide a part to extend inwardly of the flanges and at right angles thereto, as at 16, to form runways or tracks for rollers at opposite sides of the flanges. This slide section 13 is adapted to engage in the guide 10 and supported therein to have to and fro movement by the parts 15 engaging upon rollers 17 rotatably carried and spaced apart or separated by carriers 18. These carriers are of channel shape in cross section with the open side at the bottom and are of such size and the rollers pivotally supported thereby that they will clear the runway for the rollers and a portion of the rollers will pass through openings therein to be engaged by the laterally projecting portions 15 of the slide section. It will be noted that the rollers and carriers are confined between the flanges of the guide and the slide sections whereby said flanges serve as guides for the roller carriers and prevent lateral displacement of one relative to the other. Rotatably supported adjacent the rear end of the slide section 13 are rollers 19, a portion of which rollers extends through openings in the'laterally projecting portions 15 to engage with the under side of the inwardly extending portions 12 of the flanges of the guide which form tracks for said rollers and prevent frictional retardation of the slide section during its to and fro movement in the guide. The rearward movement of the slide section 13 in the guide is limited by the closed end of the guide which has a suitable cushioning pad 20 and the forward movement is limited by the engagement of the front end of the roller carriers 18 with removable stops 21 (Figs. 2 and 5) releasably secured to the guide in the path of movement of the roller carriers 18. These stops are substantially of channel shape with one flange of greater extent and width than the remaining portion of the stops, as at 23. These stops are adapted to be passed through openings 22 in the flanges of the guide to assume substantially the position shown in Fig. 2 and the openings being of a size so that the enlarged part 23 will not pass therethrough and prevent said stops from passing too far into the guide. They may be fixedly secured in position by screws 24. The ends of the roller carriers have suitable cushions 25 to take up any shock incidental to the -abutting of the carriers against the stops. These cushions are in the form of felt pads carried by staples 26 engaging in slots in the end of the roller carriers formed by bending the ends of the flanges of the roller carriers inward.
The slide section 14 is also in the form of a channel bar with the base or connecting portion of the flanges extending laterally of the flanges as at 27. Said slide section engages in the section 13 with the extensions 27 engaging between the offset portions 12 of the slide to close the space between the same and is supported upon rollers 28 therein to have to and fro movement. The rollers 28 are carried and spaced apart by carriers 29 similar to the carriers 18. Rollers 30 rotatably carried by the flanges of the channel bar slide 14 engage with and run upon the tracks formed by the inwardly extending portions 16 of the slide section 13 to thereby prevent frictional retardation of the movement of the slide section 14. The rearward movement of the slide section 14 is limited by the end thereof engaging with the axle 31 of the rollers 19 (Fig. 2) and the forward movement is limited by the forward end of the roller carrier 29 engaging with a lip 32 bent up from the bottom of the section 13, the end of said carrier also being provided with cushions 25. The drawer is releasably connected to the slide section 14 by a projection on a cleat 33 secured to the end of the drawer engaging in an opening in a lip 34 bent upwardly from the top of the slide section 14, and a hooked portion 35 engaging in back of a plate 36 secured to the rear side of the front end of the drawer. The slide sections are releasably connected by a hooked latch 37 pivotally supported on the axle 31 of the rollers 19 coperating with the ,axle of the rollers 30 and maintained in latched position by a spring 38. The sections are released when the drawer is moved out to substantially midway by a spring influenced slide 39 slidably carried by the slide section 13 engaging with the end of the roller carriers 18.
The operation is substantially as follows Assuming "a drawer is in its innermost or normal position in a chamber in the casing and the parts in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 with the extensible slide sections 13 and 14 ,locked ltogether by the latch 37. As the drawer is moved outward the'connected sections with the drawer will ride along the rollers 17 until the drawer is moved out substantially midway when the movement of the rollers l'will be arrested b the roller carriers l18 abutting against t e stops 21. Simultaneously with the engagement of the roller carriers with said stopsV the slide 39 will engage with the opposite end of said roller carriers and be moved rearward, the said slide engaging with a depending portion 37 of the latch 37 throwing it out of engagement with the axle of the rollers against the tension of the spring V38 thereby releasing the slide section 14. The drawer at-this t1me is substantially in midway position supported centrally thereof upon the rollers 17 and 28 with the load equalized upon said rollers, the weight and load of the drawer at the forward end causing the rollers 19 to engage with the offset flanges 12 of the guide 10 and preventing any frictional retardationof the movement of the drawer which would otherwise occur should the slide section 13 be in sliding and frictional contact with said offset portions of the guide. The slide section 14 having been 'released the drawer during the farther outwardmovement will be supported upon the rollers 28V running within the slide section 13 and will be supported upon said rollers to its outermost position, any weight upon the forward end of the drawer causing the rollers 30 to engage with the offset portions 16 of the slide section 13, thereby overcoming frictional retardation of the outward movement of the drawer. The outward movement of the drawer is limited by the forward end of the roller carrier 29'engaging with the lip 32 of the slide section 13.
.I The drawer will also be supported upon the rollers 28 during the initial inward movement of the drawer to substantially its midway position into the casing and until the rollers 30 assume a position so that the axle thereof will engage over the latch 37 thereby locking the slide sections together and the forward end of the slide section 14 engaging with the end of the slide section 13 and the drawer will be moved lto its innermost position from said midway position upon the rollers 17 the two slide sections moving concomitantly.
Each of the roller carriers 18 and 29 carries within the channel thereof a pad 40 to extend longitudinally thereof, and which preferably consists of strips of felt and engages with the runways for the rollers carried by said carriers. Having thus described my invention I` slide, comprising a pair of releasably conj p nected sections, said sections being normally connected and adapted to be disconnected when the drawer moves outward a predetermined distance and connected when the drawer moves inward a predetermined distance, one of said slide sections engaging in the uide and the other slide section engaging 1n the first slide section; rollers anda carrier therefor in the guide and upon which rollers the slide section engaging in the guide is supported; and rollers and a carrier therefor in the first slide section and. upon which rollers the second slide section is supported; and said rollers and carriers in the guide and first slide section having movenient in a direction with the movement of the drawer, substantially as and for the' i l purpose Specified.

The combination with.a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing below the drawer with the opening therein at the top; rollers and carriers therefor engaging in said guide; an extensible slide for the drawer comprising a pair of sections one section being of channel bar form and each of the flanges of the channel bar having a laterally extending offset flange, said section adapted to engage in the guide with the opening therein at the top and the lateral offset flanges engaging with and supported upon the rollers in the guide, and -the other section of the slide interlocking with and having a roller bearing in the rst section; and means to removably connect the drawer to said latter section.

The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing below the drawer with the opening therein at the top, and the flanges of said guide having inward offset flanges; rollers engaging in said guide; carriers and separators for said rollers; a channel bar slide, the flanges of which bar have laterally and inwardly offset flanges, said slide being adapted to engage in the guide and supported upon the rollers therein by the laterally extending flanges to have to and fro movement; rollers carried adjacent the rear end of said slide to engage with the inwardly offset flanges of the guide; rollers engaging in said slide; a carrier and separator for said rollers; a second slide engaging in the first slide and supported upon the rollers therein to have to and fro movement; rollers carried adjacent the rear end of said second slide to engage with the inwardly ofl'set flanges of the first slide;
means at the forward and rearward ends of said second slide to releasably connect the same to the drawer; and means to releasably connect and disconnect the slides during the inward and outward movement of the drawer.

The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the easing below the drawer with the opening therein at the top, an extensible supporting slide for the drawer, comprising a section engaging in and having a roller bearing support within the guide to have a limited to and fro movement, and a section to which the' drawer is connected engaging in the Erst section and having a roller bearing support therein to have a limited to and fro movement; means to releasably connect the sections, said means being operable to connect the sections when the drawer is moved substantially midway into the casing and move said sections concomitantly during the inward movement of the drawer from substantially its midway to its innermost position in the casing and during its outward movement from its innermost position in the casing to substantially midway of its outward movement; and means to release said sections during the outward movement of the drawer and as it reaches substantially its midway outward position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
7. The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing below the drawer with the opening therein at the top, an extensible supporting slide for the drawer, comprising a ,section engaging in and having a roller 'bearing support within the guide to have a limited to and fro movement, and a section to which the drawer is connected engaging in the first section and having a roller bearing support therein to have a limited to and fro movement; and means to releasably connect and disconnect the'slide sections during ythe inward and outward movement of the drawer, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
8. The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing below the drawer with the opening therein at the top, an extensible supporting slide for the drawer, comprising a section engaging in and having a roller bearing support within the guide to have a limited to and fro movement, and a `section to which the drawer is connected engaging in the first section and having a roller bearing support therein to have a limited to and fro movement; and coperating latch mechanism carried by said slides to releasably connect and disconnect said slides during the outward and inward movement of the drawer, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
9. The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide xed to the casing below the drawer with the opening therein at the top, an extensible supporting slide for the drawer, comprising a section engaging in and having a roller bearing support within the guide to have a limited to and fro movement, and a sect-ion to 'which the drawer is connected engaging in the first section and having a roller bearing support therein to have a limited to and fro movement; a spring influenced latch carried by one of the slide sections Ito engage with a art of the other section to connect the sections during a portion of the inward and outward movement of the drawer; and a releasing` slide for said latch operable to engage with and release the latch and to disconnect the slide sections during a portion of the outward and inward movement of the drawer, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
10. The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing 'below the drawer with the opening therein at the top, an eX- tensible supporting slide for the drawer, comprising a section engaging in and having a roller bearing support within the guide to have a limited to and fro movement, and asection to which the drawer is connected enaging in therst section and having a roller earing` support therein to have a limited to and fro movement; a springl influenced latch carried by the rst slide section to engage with a part of the second slide section to connect the sections duringI a portion of the inward and outward movement of the drawer; and a releasing slide carried b the first slide section to release the latch an dis-l connect the slide sections at a predetermined .point in the outward movement of the drawer, substantiallyl as and for the purpose specified.
