Description

FELIX K. ALSTRAND, 0F WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
MAILING-PURSE;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 9, 1919.
Application filed August 12,1918. Serial no. 249,445.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FELIX K. AIL-STRAND, a citizen of Finland, residing at Worcester, county of Worcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain 'new and useful Improvements in Mailing-Purses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to purses, and particularly to that kind of purse which is used for conveying money through the mails, and for other similar purposes, and has for its object to provide a device of this nature that will contain either bills or coins of various denominations, or both; that will when closed, and particularly when inserted in an envelop, retain its contents in perfect order, and prevent displacement or loss therefrom; and, that is exceedingly simple and economical in construction, and efiicient in use.
These and other objects of my invention, are set forth in the following specification, and shown in the accompanying drawings which form a material part of this disclosure, and in which;
Figurell is a top plan view of my im-- proved purse in an opened position;
Fig. 2 is a front, elevational new of the insert for separating the coins;
Fig. 3 is a central, vertical, sectional view,
taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings, I form my improved purse out of a single sheet of strong paper or other suitable material 10, which I fold upon itself as at 11, 12, to form two pockets 1 1, 15, the first of which is adapted to hold folded bills. and the latter of which is adapted to hold coins of various denominations, as desired.
Flaps, 16, 17, are formed at the sides of the paper 10, and are folded over upon said paper at the sides of said pockets, and are secured thereto in any suitable manner, as for example, by lue or paste.
An insert 18 of pasteboard or other suitable material, is cut by suitable dies to form lleshaped recesses 19, when the insert. is placed within the pocket 15, to receive and hold the coins placed therein. Projecting ribs 20, formed thereby, serve to stiffen said pocket 15; to provide retaining walls for said coins; and to hold said pocket in an extended position so that the presence of coins therein will not be apparent, when said purse is forwarded through the mails.
The insert 18 may be secured within said pocket in any suitable manner, as for example, by glue or paste.
My said purse thus formed is when used, folded upon its median line 21, the pocket 14, being folded over and down upon the pocket 15, and when within an envelop, the bills and coins'contained therein are securely held and prevented from displacement from the pockets.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A combined coin and bill mailing purse comprising a single sheet of paper folded upon itself to form pockets and having flaps folded over and secured to the outside of said pockets to hold them in place, one of said pockets being adapted to hold 1 s, of said pockets and adhering on opposite faces to the inner walls of said pocket, said insert having U shaped coin receiving recesses opening toward the mouth thereof, the portions of said insert on opposite sides of the said recesses being extended beyond the mouth of the pocket. I
2. A purse formed of a single sheet of paper, folded upon itself to form pockets, said pockets adapted to be folded ,on one another for insertion in an envelop, flaps secured to the outside of said pockets to hold them in place and an insert disposed within one of said pockets having recesses therein along one edge adapted to receive coins, and ribs extending along the sides of said recesses and forming reinforcements for said pocket, the opposite edge of said insert extending unbroken throughout the length of the purse to stiffen the envelop in whichthe purse is inserted.
In testimony whereof, I FELIX K. AL- STRAND have signed my name to this specification, this first day of July, 1918.
FELIX K. ALSTRAND.
