APPLICATION FILED DEC. 9, I9I9.

ROBERT L. CLARK, OF UNION, WEST VIRGINIA.
DEVICE FOR ATTACHING WIRES T0 'INSULATORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1920.
Application filed December 9, 1919. Serial No. 343,583.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT L. CLARK, a citizen of the United St-.tes, residing at Union, in the county of Monroe and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Attaching Vires to Insulators, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a wire attaching .device for insulators, and more particularly to the class of wire clips for use on electric wire insulators.
The primary object ofthe invention is the provision of a clip of this character, wherein-the same isformed from a single piece or continuous wire bent into a particular shape for the rapid and convenient fastening of telephone, telegraph or other wires to an insulator, the clip being of novel construction soth'at the line wire can be fastened to the insulator with despatc h, without anypossibility of the said line wire becoming loose onthe insulator nor can the insulator become detached from the line wire.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a clip of this character, which 'is extremely'simple in construction, readily and easy handled for the application of the same to fasten a line wire to an insulator,
thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view the invention, consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described,
. illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a clip constructed in accordance with the invention. i
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing in detail the application of the clip to a line wire, the clip and line wire being shown in full lines, while by dotted linzs is shown the insulator.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showlng the application of the clip to the line wire.
arcuateshaped complementary stretches 5, the bight 6 between the stretches 5 at one end of the loop member A constitutes an eye for one end portion 7 of the wire, the said end portion 7 being trained through the bight 6 between the stretches 5, while the other end portion 8 of the wire is turned upon itself to lie close to one of the stretches 5 of the loop member A, while the adjacent portion thereto of said end portion 7 of the wire is coiled or twisted at 9 about the bight 10 formed by the turned end portion 8 thus closing the other end of the loop member A.
The loop member A is adapted to partially embrace an insulator 11 and passing through the bights 6 and 10 at opposite ends of the loop member is a line wire 12, which latter crosses the insulator 11 at the side opposite the loop member Awhen partially embracing said insulator, the end portion 7 of the wire forming the loop member A being bent reversely on itself it being understood of course that said end portion 7 is drawn upon so as to, tighten the loop member A about the insulator 11 and this reversely bent portion 13 of said wire has its extremity coiled or twisted about the line wire 12, the coils or twists 14 being drawn tight about the wire 12 and in this manner the extremity of I the end portion 7 of said wire is securely fastened, so that the wire attaching device or clip will clamp the line wire 12 securely to the insulator 11, without any possibility of the line wire 12 becoming loose or freed from the insulator, nor will the insulator become detached from the line wire.
By reason of the particular constru tion' of the wire attaching device or clip the same can be engaged with the insulator 11 and will enable the line wire 12 to be fastened thereto with despatch, the said wire attachto one of the stretches of said 100p and the other end of said wire being extended through the closed end of the loop and adapted to be bent backwardly on itself and engaged with a line Wire.
2. A device of the character described comprising a single strand of Wire bent to form a *loop having double stretches and closed at opposite ends, one end of the Wire being fast to one stretch of the 100]). while the other end of .said wire is free, said free end of the wire being extended crosswise of the loop and slidable through one closed end thereof and adapted to be bent reversely'on itself and engaged with a line Wire.
In testimony'whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
ROBERT L. CLARK.
