To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, WALTER J. SEUBERI, .a. citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification. 7

My invention relates to improvements in hangers, the object of the invention being to provide a hanger which is designed for use on picture frames and the like, and which will insure the proper hanging of the picture without the employment of wires, cords, and the like.

A further object is to provide a hanger of the character stated which is composed of a single piece of metal bent into the desired shape and operating to space the upper end of the picture frame from the wall, giving the desired angular disposition to the picture frame.

lVith these and other objects in. view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a. view in side elevation illustrating my improved hanger in operative position. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary rear view of the picture frame showing my improved hanger thereon, and Fig. 3 is a detailed view of the made.

1 represents the frame of a picture, mirror, or other similar article to which my improved hanger 2 is secured. The hanger 2 consists of .a single sheet metal blank as illustrated in Fig. 8, which is bent on the three lines 3, 4, and 5. The blank is bent at the line 5 forming a securing plate 6 which is at an acute angle to a relatively long intermediate member 7.

The blank is bent upon itself at the line i, so that the relatively short intermediate portion 8 lies approximately parallel with the intermediate portion 7, but is approximately half the length of the portion 7.

The blank is bent on the line 3 so as to position the tongue 9 at an approximate right angle to the portion 8. The tongue 9 is made with an opening 10 to receive the nail 11 driven into the wall 12 to support the hanger and picture. The bend at the fold line 1" which connects intermediate portions 7 and 8 constitutes a bearing surface 13 which bears against the wall 12, and spaces the frame 1 the desired distance from the wall.

By bending the intermediate portion 7 relative torthe plate 6, this distance can be varied to suit conditions.

It will be noted, particularly by reference to the blank shown in Fig. 3, that the side edges of the blank are ornamentally shaped, and this ornamentation may be varied as desired.

The plate 6 which constitutes one end of the blank is preferably wider than the blank, and provided adjacent its ends with openings 14k to receive screws 15, to secure the hanger to the frame 1.

In using my improved hanger, a single screw 15 is projected through one of the openings 1 1, and secured to the frame. This screw is made reasonably tight to prevent accidental movement, and the hanger is positioned on the nail 11. The frame should be hung as straight as can be done with the eye, and then should be swung on the nail. When the frame comes to stop by reason of gravity and hangs perfectly straight, the hanger can be removed and the second nail or screw 15 secured in place. The frame will always hang straight without any tendency to assume a slanting position on the wall.

The bearing surface 12 gives the necessary incline to the frame, and the location of the perforated tongue 9 which is approximately midway between the ends of the intermediate member 7 is in convenient location to receive the supporting nail, and by variation in the bending of the blank, the frame can be hung to suit the user.

Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A hanger of the character described, comprising a single metal blank bent at three points forming at one end a plate to be secured to the frame and at its other end a tongue having an opening therein to receive a nail; said blank at its intermediate portion being bent to form a turned edge which constitutes the sole wall-engaging portion of the hanger, said tongue extending upwardly and located intermediate of the plate and said wall-engaging edge, substantially as described.

2. A hanger of the character described,
