T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDGAR O. LOEBER, citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements {in Telephone Guards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a telephone guard, and the object of the invention is to provide a guard for a telephone transmitter which covers the mouthot-the transmitter and protects the same from the accumulation of dust a's'well asto prevent t efperson who uses the tei'ep'hone from breathing into the transmitter and'thereby depositipg' disease germs, all substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in' the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a telephone transmitter with my new and improved ard in using position thereon, and Fig. 2 1s a sectional elevation of the mouth piece or trumpet of the transmitter with'the guard in sectional elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan View of a modification of the guard itself.

The transmitter as thus shown is indicated by a and-the trumpet shaped mouth- ,piece'thereof by 2, which is of the conven- ,tional flaring type generally in use. The

'30 said guard 9 consists of a paper disk of a fairly substantial kind of paper, preferably. so that it will not be too easily torn, and which is provided with two segmental cuts or slits 3 and 4 above and below, respectively. though they might be placed at the sides if preferred and serve the same purpose. The said slits are not concentric one with the other but eccentric as plainly seen in Fig. 3, and so th'at'the guard may be drawn first over the top portion of the mouthpiece at the slit 3 and then over the other at the slit 4:- The border both above and below is then thrown baclrinto locking position as seen in Figs. 1 and 2 and the guard is in place. This construction also provides a central disk portion 5 which is practically separate from the border 6 except at the two side portions indicated by 7 where the two circular slits 3 and 4 termihate. From practical experience where this guard is used it is found that, if anything, the "transmission 1S clearer and more eii'ective through it than without it, even without perforations, but if desired the form shown in Fig. 3 maybe used and wherein a few perforations are shown. These, however, are relatively small, mere pin holes, and not such as to transmit either breath or dust to the interior.
