Description

H. ANDERSON. WATER HEATER.
APPLICATION FILED JAN.25,1913.
Patented Aug. 19, 1913.
INVENTOR WITNESSES:
COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH co., WASHINGTON. D. C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HOMER ANDERSON, 0F PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK.
WATER-HEATER.
Application filed January 25, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Peekskill, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Water-Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to water heaters, and has special reference to sections for gas heaters, auxiliary heaters, and for heating water with steam.
The object is to add to the heating surface of a specific heater hereinafter described; and the object is attained by the means set forth in this specification and the accompanying drawings, in both of which like letters refer to similar parts in the views of the drawings.
Reference being made to the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the heater. Fig. 2 is a plan of the heater.
In general form the heater shown is not new, and in the form in which it is made, the upper half of the heater is just the same as the lower half of Fig. 1, that is, two hollow hubs a, made for pipe connection outlets, are united by means of tubes Z), with the result that fluid entering one of the hubs must pass through the several tubes to get to the other hub.
The improvement constituting this invention consists in uniting thetubes b, for a portion of their lengths, with webs 0, Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 1, at 0, shows that a portion Specification of Letters Patent.

of the web is broken away, disclosing its hollow form, and that the chamber within it unites with the passage 6 through the tube, the chamber and the tube passage both opening into the hollow e of the hub a.
The webs present a broad heating surface, and the chambers therein give passage to thin sheets of water, so that the heating efficiency of the heater is largely increased. In some situations the webs answer the purpose and take the places of deflecting plates. The webs may be made to occupy a greater or less space in the direction of the lengths of the tubes than is herein shown, depend ing upon how the heaters are to be employed.
Having described my invention, what 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a water heater comprising hollow hubs connected by means of tubes whereby fluids entering one hub must pass through the tubes to get to the other hub, hollow webs connecting the said tubes for part of the lengths of the tubes, the water chambers in the webs opening into the tubes and hollow hub.
Signed at Peekskill in the county of Vestchester and State of New York, this twentyfourth day of January, 1913.
