DRUM ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 27, 1911.
Patented Oct. 8, 1912.
Serial No. 662,727.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J. STRAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drum Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in drum attachments and the object of my invention is to provide a device for attaching a cymbal to a drum in position for use.
A further object of my invention is to provide means whereby the device is made adjustable for various sizes of drums and whereby the position of the attached cymbal may be adjusted with respect to the drum.
IVith these and other objects in view, my invention will be more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings which show a preferred embodiment of my device and then specifically pointed out in the claim which is attached to and forms a part of this application.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a drum showing a cymbal attached thereto by means of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the device removed from the drum.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout, 10 designates a drum of a conventional type and 11 a cymbal, also conventional in form, which is detachably secured to the drum by means of my improved device which as a whole, is designated by the numeral 12.
The attaching device as best shown in Figs. 1 and 2 consists of a body member 13 preferably formed of steel and provided at one end with an integrally formed hook 14 adapted to engage with one of the hoops of the drum and this body member extends longitudinally of the shell of the drum and is provided adjacent its other end with a longitudinally extending slot 15. Slidably mounted upon this body member by means of a threaded pin 16 is a plate 17 which plate, is provided with an outwardly and downwardly extending hook forming terminal 18 adapted to engage with the other hoop of the drum, said plate being adapted to be clamped in adjusted position by means of a wing nut 19. As shown the slotted end of the body member extends a considerable distance beyond the head of the drum and the cymbal 11 is attached to the body member by means of a second threaded pin 20 which passes through the slot and a wing nut 21 which engages with said second pin.
In operation the device is clamped upon the drum shell as best shown in Fig. 1 and the cymbal is clamped upon the body member 12 at one side of the drum.
As will be readily seen the device may be readily adjusted for use with drums of various lengths and the cymbal may be clamped to the body member at various positions as desired.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a bracket formed from a flat plate having a central longitudinal slot at one end, and its other end terminating in a hook portion forming a stationary jaw, a slidable aw 0pposite the stationary jaw, adjusting means passed through the sliding jaw and engaging in said slot for holding the jaw in adjusted position whereby both jaws may engage the hoops of a drum, a boss spanning the slot and disposed at right angles to the plate, means carried by the boss for securing a cymbal thereto, and means engaged through the slot for adjusting the boss longitudinally of the plate.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK J. STRAHL.
