Abstract

A cellular telephone network includes: a first system area having a plurality of cells including a first cell, the first system area supports the first and second hyperband cellular communication; a second system area having a plurality of cells including a second cell, the second system area supports the first but not second hyperband cellular communication; a mobile station moving from the first cellular area to the second cellular area in the network to support the cellular communication with the first and the second hyperbands; when a message is sent from the first system area to the second system area, a request for the mobiles station in the second system area to verify the signal strength measurement, the request includes traffic channel identification, the first and the second hyperband identification within which the traffic channel exists.
