Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals and polymers, using an inexpensive industrial raw material under mild condition, advantageously on an industrial scale, by reacting isoprene with sulfur chloride. CONSTITUTION:Isoprene is made to react with a sulfur chloride such as S2Cl2 preferably at a molar ratio (isoprene to sulfur chloride) of 1-1.2 to obtain the objective compound. The reaction is preferably carried out in a solvent such as n-hexane. Preferably, the reaction is performed at 0 deg.C - room temperature at the initial addition reaction and at a temperature between the boiling point of the solvent and 200 deg.C in the next elimination reaction step.
