Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the self-discharge characteristic and the over-discharge shelf characteristic of a lead storage battery by using an electrode plate substrate made of lead alloy containing Sn, As with the preset polymerization ratio respectively and allowing alkaline metal ions or alkaline earth metal ions to exist in an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A Pb-Sn-As alloy is used and the ration of Sn, As are limited to 1.0wt.%<=Sn<=3.0wt.%, 0.1wt.%<=As<=0.5wt.% to improve the over-discharge shelf characteristic with the alloy other than a Ca alloy which has the same liquid reduction property as that of Pb-Ca, little self-discharge, and no lattice expansion. Alkaline metal ions or alkaline earth metal ions exist in an electrolyte, and the self-discharge and over-discharge shelf characteristic can be improved by the product of the effect of the alloy multiplied by the effect of existing ions.
