Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the sensitivity and contrast of a sensitive material and to improve the shelf stability by incorporating at least one kind of dye selected among tricarbocyanine dyes and dicarbocyanine dyes each contg. a 4-quinoline ring, at least one kind of specified compd. and at least one kind of hydrazine compd. CONSTITUTION:One or more kinds of dyes selected among tricarbocyanine dyes and dicarbocyanine dyes each contg. a 4-quinoline ring are incorporated and a compd. represented by formula I is added to a silver halide emulsion by 10<-6>-10<-1>mol. per 1mol. silver. In formula I, each of R<1>-R<4> is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, etc., X is a group which can be released when the compd. represented by formula I reacts with a nucleophilic reagent and Y<-> is an anion. A hydrazine compd. is further incorporated into an emulsion layer or a layer adjacent to the emulsion layer. The sensitivity and contrast of the resulting sensitive material are increased and the shelf stability can be improved.
