PURPOSE:To get rid of a copying error and to obtain a copy having a good quality, by leading a reflected luminous flux by the surface of an original to a photoelectric converting element by a fiber lens array, detecting a density pattern on the surface of the original, and knowing the density by a CPU. CONSTITUTION:A luminous flux reflected by the surface of an original is led to a photoelectric converting element 3 such as a photodiode by a fiber lens array 2, and a density pattern of the original is detected. This detection output is converted to an electric signal, is switched by a switching circuit 4, and a peak value in this case is held by a peak holding circuit 5. This value is processed by a microcomputer 7 through an A/D converter 6, the density of the surface of the original is recognized, and by use of this density, the picture quality adjustment such as charged corona output adjustment O1, exposure lamp adjustment O2, etc. is executed. In this way, it is possible to get rid of a copying error and to obtain a copy having a good quality.
