Abstract

PURPOSE: To test the activity of a catalyst for catalytic cracking easily and correctly through measuring the ratio between the amount of gas formed and that of raw hydrocarbons by a method wherein the catalyst in a reduced state is contacted to a mixture of hydrocarbons and steam under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: The catalyst for catalytic cracking which has been used for a reaction is reduced by hydrogen, and then it is contacted to a mixture 1W4C hydrocarbons fed from a hydrocarbon source 7 and steam fed from a steam producer 5 under the conditions of S/C=1W1.5, GHSV=150W800hr-1 and a catalyst layer temperature of 650W950°C, wherein S/C is the number of oxygen atoms in the steam per one carbon atom in the hydrocarbons. The redidual activity of the catalyst is evaluated by the ratio between the amount of the gas formed and that of the raw hydrocarbons, and whether the catalyst can be used or not is judged easily and correctly.
