Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture an optical distributor which is coupled easily with one optical fiber by inserting a bundle of optical fibers into a quartz pipe, and then heating drawing them. CONSTITUTION:A bundle 9 of optical fiber is inserted into a quartz pipe 8, which is heated and drawn until the external diameter of the quartz pipe has a prescribed value; and the drawn part is cut with a cutter 12. When an optical fiber for the propagation of a light signal is shaped stepwise, the optical fiber 14 is connected as it is and then used as an optical distributor. When the optical fiber to be connected is a single mode grated type fiber, it is connected through a step-shaped optical fiber 17 which increases gradually.
