Abstract
PURPOSE:To agitate the inside of an ingot effectively by disposing air-core coils on the inner side of a yoke enclosing the passage of the ingot and creating rotating magnetic fields in the passage thereby preventing the decrease in the magnetic flux density from the air-core coils toward the center of the passage. CONSTITUTION:A square cylindrical yoke 22 is disposed by enclosing a passage 21 for an ingot, and air-core coils 23a-23d are disposed along the inside surfaces of the yoke 22, that is the surfaces 22a-22d on the side facing the passage 21. Rotating magnetic fields are created in the inside space of the yoke 22 by flowing electric currents of different phases to the coils 23a-23d. Hence, the sharp decrease in the magnetic flux density from the air-core coils toward the center of the passage 21 is prevented by using the air-core coils 23a-23d for the elements for forming magnetic fields in the passage 21.
