Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of sensitivity and potential, and rise of residual potential without causing deterioration of the surface of a photoreceptor even when exposed to an oxidative atmosphere, such as ozone produced by corona charging, by adding an antioxidant, such as a mild reductant to the photosensitive layer. CONSTITUTION:It is desirable that an antioxidant is contained in a charge transfer layer in an photosensitive layer consisting of the laminate structure of a charge generating layer and the charge transfer layer. Its addition prevents deterioration of sensitivity due to oxidation of the photosensitive layer without inducing the deterioration of the layer. As this antioxidant, a mild reductant is desirable in general, such as dibutyl hydroxytoluene, 2.2'-methylene-bis(6-t-butyl- 4-methylphenol), 4.4'-butylidene-bis(6-t-butyl-3-methylphenol), 4.4-thiobis(6-t-butyl- 3-methylphenol), alpha-tocopherol, and beta-tocopherol.
