Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a short circuit which is caused by the production of dentrite and thus to increase the life of a retainer lead-storage-battery, by employing a separator which consists of two layers, one of which is a thin porous layer with small holes in it and is in contact with a negative plate. CONSTITUTION:In a retainer lead-storage-battery, the amount of an electrolyte is not more than 1.2cc/g of a positive active material, and a positive plate, negative plate and separator are impregnated with the electrolyte. The constitution of the separator is as follows: The separator consists of two layers. The first layer is formed of glass fiber with a diameter not more than 3.5mu, and is in contact with the positive plate. The second layer is formed of a porous body which defines holes of a diameter smaller than the diameter of the glass fiber used for the first layer; the diameter of the holes is 0.01- 1mu. The second layer is in contact with the negative plate.
