Abstract

PURPOSE: A microorganism in Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium, which is resistant to α-ketomalonic acids and capable of producing the titled substance, is cultured and the titled substance is collected from the culture mixture in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: A mutant of Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium such as Previbacterium flavum AJ11573 or Corynebacterium glutamicum AJ11574, which is resistant to α-ketomalonic acids, is cultured in a usual medium containing carbon, nitrogen sources and inorganic ions. The cultivation is aerobically conducted and the L-glutamine formed is collected from the culture mixture by a usual method such as an ion-exchange resin method.
