Abstract
PURPOSE: To bend a glass plate by heat-softening the plate at a state in which it is held almost horizontally from the lower side with the edge parts free and by slouching the central part of the plate by the empty wt. to control occurrence of a point of contraflexure.
CONSTITUTION: Glass plate 10 is supported by jig 14. At this time, by regulating distance d' from one edge of plate 10 to the fulcrum to below 1.5 times as long as the plate thickness, pref. below the plate thickness, a point of contraflexure or contrary flexure is scarcely formed. By providing holding jig 18 with upper opening 18A slightly smaller than plate 10 and by providing one end of opening 18A with glass receiving recess 18a having a fulcrum distance corresponding to distance d' and other glass receiving recess 18b having a tapered inner wall, jig 18 can hold plate 10 horizontally and stably at the lower edge side even if plate 10 moves over opening 18A within range (f). Accordingly, high dimensional accuracy of plate 10 is not required.
