Abstract
PURPOSE:To smooth crazing parts and achieve the higher life of casting mold by supplying fine pieces of cast iron or other to the crazing parts, generating arc heat with a non-consumable electrode and letting the cast iron fine pieces melt together with the casting mold surface layer part. CONSTITUTION:Cast iron fine pieces 2a are supplied to the crazing parts produced in the surface layer part 6 of the inside wall of a casting mold 1. With a non-consumable electrode 3 of carbon rod or the like being held at an angle perpendicular to the crazing parts, current is supplied thereto to generate arc 4. This arc heat causes the casting mold surface layer 6 to melt together with the cast iron fine pieces 2a, thereby integrally fusion-bonding the same to the base metal of the casting mold 1. Here, even if oxide layers 5 exist on the inside wall surface of the casting mold 1, they react with the carbon or silicon in the cast iron and the oxide layers 5 are removed. This repair method enables the inside wall surface of the casting mold 1 to be smoothed and the casting ingot of good quality to be obtained with good yield.
