Abstract

PURPOSE: An artificial mutant that belongs to Bacillus and resists aminomethane- sulfonic acid, cystein and others to produce inosine is cultured in a liquid medium to accumulate a large amount of inosine in the medium and the inosine is collected.
CONSTITUTION: A known mutant having ability to produce inosine, for example, AJ11370 (FERM-P 5022) resisting aminomethanesulfonic acid that is derived from Bacillus subtilis AJ11044 is cultured in a usual liquid medium containing a carbon source, nitrogen source, inorganic salts, adenine and, when necessary, trace amounts of other nutriments. The culture is conducted aerobically at 24W40°C and 5.0W9.0 pH for 2W5 days to accumulate inosine in the medium. The culture mixture is filtered, the filtrate is treated with a decolorizing resin and anion resin and inosine is precipitated from the resultant aqueous solution for collection.
