Abstract

PURPOSE:To stop a starting operation of the lamp in failure, prevent a damage of the safety device and increase a reliability of the lamp, by applying an adherence of the electron emitting material at least partially to a resistance unit of the thermal starter. CONSTITUTION:When a voltage is applied to the lamp through a stabilizer, a resistor 3 is heated causing its generated heat to open the circuit of a bimetal switch 4 simultaneously allowing a high tension kicking voltage produced at this moment to light the lamp. Partially at least to the resistor 3, is applied an adherence of the electron emitting materials like BaO, ZnO, SrO, etc. If an electric discharge occurs in the outer bulb, end parts of the resistor are applied a shock of xenon ion due to the effect of an electric field causing the temperature to abnormally rise and resulting in a fusing.
