Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the high-purity spherical fine-particle zinc readily and inexpensively at a high yield by mixing amorphous zinc dust and salts soluble in water and heating the mixture to above the melting point of metal zinc then separating the salts.
CONSTITUTION: Amorphous zinc dust and salts of a melting point 500°C or less soluble in water (e.g.; zinc chloride), and further salts of a melting point 500°C or more soluble in water (e.g.; NaCl) if needed, are mixed. Next, the mixture is heated to above the melting point of metal zinc. The oxidation of the zinc dust is prevented by the salts and the cohesion of the zinc dust is prevented through utilization of the viscosity owing to the melting of the salts. In addition, the molten zinc is spheroidized by the use of its surface tension. Thence, this heat-treated product is washed in water or warm water, by which the salts deposited on the zinc particles are readily removed and fine spherical zinc particles are obtained.
