Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to measure viscosity by remote control ans secure the explosion-proof property, by bringing a vibrator into contact with a measured medium and by utilizing that the Q value of resonance of this vibrator changes based on the viscosity of the medium.
CONSTITUTION: Vibrator 2 consisting of a dielectric which has a pyroelectric property as well as a piezoelectric property is so arranged that it may be brought into contact with measured medium 1. The control part is provided with the first light source 7, the second light source 8, photo detector 9, and Q value meauring part 10. When the light from the first light source is irradiated to vibrator 2, mechanical vibration is excited through the piezoelectric effect because of change of spontaneous polarization dependent upon the pyroelectric effect. Then, the Q value of resonance at this time is changed by viscosity of measured medium 1 brought into contact with vibrator 2. Consequently, the light from the second light source 8 is modulated by vibrator 2, and the Q value is obtained from this modulation degree, so that viscosity of measured medium 1 can be measured.
