Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A straight-chain fluorine-containing copolymer having repeating units of formula I: (n is 1 or 2) and those of formula II: (m is an integer 1W11) or formula III: (l and p are integers 1W10; l+p=2W11), and a number-average molecular weight of 5,000W300,000, the content of the repeating units of formula I being 40W60 mole %.
EXAMPLE: A copolymer of methyl α,β,β-trifluoroacrylate and propylene.
USE: Substrates for ion exchange.
PROCESS: A monomer mixture of an ester of α,β,β-trifluoroacrylic acid and an α- olefin is polymerized readily in the absence of oxygen and the presence of a radical polymerization initiator source, e.g. γ-ray radiation.
