Abstract

PURPOSE: The polmerization of olefins is conducted in the presence of a catalyst consisting a silanol, a Grignard reagent, a titanium tetrahalide and a specific metal salt to produce olefin polymers with high stereospecificity in high polymerization activity.
CONSTITUTION: The polymerization of olefins is conducted in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (A) a titanium-containing soild catalyst component reaulting from mixing (a) a silanol or polysilanol with (b) a Grignard reagent, (c) a titanium tetrahalide and (d) a compound of formula:(R1COO)mM1Xn (R1 is hydrocarbyl group; M1 is a metal of group II or III in the periodic table; X is halogen atom; hydrocarbyl group; m is 1-3, n is 0-2) or formula R2OCOR3O)pM2Xq (R2 is hydrocarbyl; R3 is arylene, alkylene group; M2 is metal of group II or III in the periodic table; X is halogen atom, hydrocarbyl group), and (B) an organoaluminum compound.
