Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the decrease in temperature variations owing to breathing air flow and the variations in detection signal to be controlled over the entire range of the rate of breathing air flow by covering part of the surface of the alcohol concentration detecting element with a porous buffer capturing layer.
CONSTITUTION: An alcohol concentration detecting element 1 whose interpole resistance changes in proportion to the alcohol concentration contained in breathing air, a heating element 2 maintaining the element 1 at an operating temperature, a temperature detecting element 3, lead-out electrodes 4 thru 9 and lead-out wires 10 thru 13 are provided on an insulation substrate such as alumina. The electrodes 4, 5 connected with the wires 10, 11 are for the element 1, the electrodes 6, 7 connected with the wires 10, 11 are for the heating element 2 and the electrodes 8, 9 connected with the wires 12, 13 are for the element 3. The surface of this element 1 is covered with a buffer capturing layer of 1 to 100μm in thickness, such as of a metal oxide being porous and penetrating through the surface of the element 1.
