Abstract
PURPOSE: To make possible display background having good contrast and the reduction in thickness of the device by providing the specific porous material between display electrodes and a counter electrode in a reflection type electrochromic display device in particular.
CONSTITUTION: Vinylidene fluoride (co)polymer, pigments such as TiO2, solvent and water are heated and stirred. The mixed solution wherein the pigments are evenly dispersed is spread and dried on a porous substrate composed of material such as polytetrafluoroethylene, whereby the porous material containing the pigments is formed. This porous material is dipped in isoproply alcohol, water then aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution and is made hordrophilic through electron beam radiation. The porous material which contains the pigments in this way and having been made hydrophilic is provided between the display electrodes and counter electrode and a part or the whole of the electrolyte is impregnated in the outside facing porous spaces thereof.
