Abstract

PURPOSE:To control even a large-sized display device to proper easy-to-see display brightness by selecting a brightness control signal that the illuminance sensor at the brightest periphery among brightness control signals from sensors and controlling the display brightness of the display device according to the signal. CONSTITUTION:The display device 11 consists of a display part 12 which makes a light emission type display and a brightness control part 13 which controls the intensity (brightness) of its light emission. The illuminance sensors 14 are connected around the display device 11 and output the brightness control signals corresponding to the brightness (illuminance) at their installation places. A sensor connection part 15 compares the input brightness control signals to select the brightness control signal that the illuminance sensor 1 at the brightest circumference outputs and outputs it to the brightness control part 13 of the display device 11, and the brightness control part 13 controls the display part 12 so as to makes a display with brightness corresponding to the input brightness control signal. Consequently, the display of the light emission type display part 12 never becomes hard to view even at the brightest peripheral part.

Referring to FIG. 1, the display device 11 is composed of a display section 12 that displays a light-emitting type such as a plasma display, CRT, or LED, and a brightness control section 13 that controls the intensity (brightness) of the light emission. . A plurality of illuminance sensors 14 are connected to a sensor connection section 15 , and the sensor connection section 15 is further connected to a brightness control section 13 . A plurality of illuminance sensors 14 are connected around the display device ti, and output a brightness control signal corresponding to the brightness (illuminance) of each installation location. The sensor connection unit 15 compares the input brightness control signals, selects the brightness control signal output by the illuminance sensor 1 with the brightest surroundings, and outputs it to the brightness control unit 13 of the display device 11. The brightness control unit 13 controls the display unit 12 to display at a brightness corresponding to the input brightness control signal.

Among the above, the sensor connection unit 15 selects the brightness control signal output by the illuminance sensor 14 whose surroundings are the brightest among the input brightness control signals, even when the surroundings are the brightest. This is to prevent the display from becoming difficult to see due to surrounding brightness. This is particularly effective when the display section 12 is large.
