Description
このため、ゲート駆動回路13は、シフトレジスター、シフトレジスターの出力信号を液晶セル(Clc)のTFT駆動に相応しいスイング幅に変換するためのレベルシフト、及びレベルシフトとゲートライン(GL)との間に接続される出力バッファーをそれぞれ含む多数のゲートドライブICで構成される。
また、タイミングコントローラ21及びデータ駆動回路22は液晶表示パネル20にブラックデータを供給しないことだけを除きそれぞれ図3に示されたタイミングコントローラ11及びデータ駆動回路12と実質的に同一な機能及び作用をするので、これらに対する詳細な説明は略する。
例えば、全体光源ブロックの個数が100個で10%の消費電力を維持しようとする場合を仮定すると、10個の光源ブロックを単位領域に設定する場合に対応するディミング比は100%であり、50個の光源ブロックを単位領域に設定する場合に対応するディミング比は20%であり、全体(100個)の光源ブロックを単位領域に設定する場合に対応するディミング比は10%である。バックライト制御部35はタイミングコントローラ31が実装されるコントロールボード(図示せず)又は外部のシステムボード(図示せず)に集積化させることができる。
Claims (5)
- 液晶表示パネルと、
光源ブロック単位で分割駆動されて前記液晶表示パネルに光を照射するバックライトユニットと、
外部からインテリアモード選択信号が入力された時に、入力デジタルビデオデータとタイミング信号とを参照して、前記液晶表示パネルでの領域別に表示映像が動画であるか停止映像であるかを示す動き判定信号を検出する映像処理回路と、
前記動き判定信号に基づいて動画表示領域に対応する光源ブロックと停止映像表示領域に対応する光源ブロックを互いに異なるように駆動させるための光源駆動制御信号を発生させるバックライト制御部と、
前記光源駆動制御信号に応答して前記光源ブロックを個別的に駆動させる多数の光源駆動部を含み、前記光源駆動部の駆動によって前記動画表示領域に対応する光源ブロックを、前記液晶パネル全体に映像を表示するノーマル駆動時よりも暗い低ディミング比で点灯させて、前記停止映像表示領域に対応する光源ブロックを消灯させるバックライト駆動回路を備え、
前記映像処理回路は前記動き判定信号に基づいて前記停止映像領域に表示されるデータはブラックデータに切り替えて出力し、前記動画領域に表示されるデータは入力そのまま出力することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 前記映像処理回路は、
前記インテリアモード選択信号が入力された時に、入力デジタルビデオデータとタイミング信号とを参照して前記液晶表示パネルでの領域別に表示映像の動き判定信号を検出して、この検出された動き判定信号によって互いに異なる論理レベルで選択信号を発生させる動き検出部と、
前記選択信号に応答して前記入力デジタルビデオデータと内部で生成されたブラックデータを選択的に出力することで、前記停止映像領域に表示させるデータはブラックデータに切り替えて出力し、前記動画領域に表示させるデータは入力をそのまま出力するマルチプレクサとを備えることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記停止画像と前記動画が同じフレームに含まれることを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 液晶表示パネルと、光源ブロック単位で分割駆動されて前記液晶表示パネルに光を照射するバックライトユニットを持つ液晶表示装置の駆動方法において、
外部からインテリアモード選択信号が入力された時に、入力デジタルビデオデータとタイミング信号とを参照して前記液晶表示パネルでの領域別に表示映像が動画であるか停止映像であるかを示す動き判定信号を検出する段階と、
前記動き判定信号に基づいて動画表示領域に対応する光源ブロックと停止映像表示領域に対応する光源ブロックを互いに異なるように駆動させるための光源駆動制御信号を発生させる段階と、
前記光源駆動制御信号に応答して、前記光源ブロックを個別的に駆動させて前記動画表示領域に対応する光源ブロックを、前記液晶パネル全体に映像を表示するノーマル駆動時よりも暗い低ディミング比で点灯させて、
前記停止映像表示領域に対応する光源ブロックを消灯させる段階を含み、
前記動き判定信号を検出する段階は、前記領域別表示映像の動き判定信号に基づいて前記停止映像領域に表示させるデータをブラックデータに切り替えて出力し、前記動画領域に表示させるデータを入力そのまま出力することを特徴とする液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記停止画像と前記動画が同じフレームに含まれることを特徴とする請求項4記載の液晶表示装置の駆動方法。
