公知の如く、ファンにより吸込んだ空気を熱交換器で冷却もしくは加熱した後、室内へ送風する空気調和機には、吸込む空気中に漂う塵埃が空気調和機の本体内部へ侵入することを防ぐため、空気調和機の吸込口裏面にエアフィルターが設けられており、このエアフィルターは、付着した塵埃を手で清掃できるように着脱自在に構成されている。

前記従来の課題を解決するため、本発明の空気調和機は、少なくとも熱交換器と吸入グリルを設けた空気調和機の室内機内部において、前記熱交換器と前記吸入グリルとの間にエアフィルターを設け、前記エアフィルターに付着するホコリを吸引し、移動可能な吸い込みノズルを前記エアフイルタ−の風上側に配し、さらに前記吸い込みノズルからのホコリを吸引・排気する吸引排気装置を配した空気調和機であって、前記吸引排気装置はモ−タを内蔵したシロッコファンと前記シロッコファンを囲むケ−シングとから形成し、前記ケ−シングの吸い込み口を前記吸い込みノズルに連通する吸い込みダクトと繋ぎ、前記ケ−シングの吹き出し口を室外へ排気する排気ダクトに連通させてホコリを排出できる機能を有したことを特徴とする空気調和機を提供できるものである。シロッコファンは、遠心送風機より風量当たりの騒音が低いが、低圧型のために内蔵モ−タを遠心送風機より高速回転させて、以上に記載の経路を通じてホコリを野外に排出するだけの静圧を確保できる。
