Abstract
962,445. Centrifugal strainer separators. T. IONO. April 20, 1961, No. 14349/61. Heading B1D. Slurry is fed at 60, 61, Fig. 1, to a cone 40 whence it reaches the inner surface of a perforate screen 11 through grooves 84, Fig. 4, in the back of an annulus 32, Fig. 2, secured at 33 to a hub member 31. The solids resulting from the centrifugal action are continuously urged to the right (Fig. 1), along screen 11 by planar sections 81, 82, on the annulus 32, Figs. 2 and 4, which constitute a wedge formation, the wedge action being derived from the differential motion indicated by arrow B, Fig. 4. The annulus 32 and screen 11 are mounted on concentric shafts 6, 5 respectively, which are driven at different speeds by a single electric motor 20 to produce the differential motion. Excess slurry, or liquid if the slurry has high liquid content, escapes through a gap 90, Fig. 1, between the rim of hub 31 and a ring 13 in the end of screen 11, and is discharged at O. Fig. 5 shows a multi-stage separator with three screens 103 to 105, each associated with a "wedge" annulus 112, 115 or 116, all mounted on the cone 113. The outermost annulus, 116, is thus mounted through the intermediary of a perforate cylinder 141 which may be supplied with wash water at 140.
