Abstract
943,757. Endless conveyers. LONDON RUBBER CO. Ltd. July 10, 1962 [July 18, 1961], No. 25953/61. Heading B8A. [Also in Division G1] The invention comprises a method of testing a hollow article such as a glove made of rubber or other flexible impervious material, comprising the steps of supporting the article with its open end uppermost, wholly or partially filling the article with electrolyte, immersing the wholly or partially filled article in a tank of the same electrolyte, supplying an E.M.F. between the electrolyte inside and outside the article, and observing or recording the passage of electric current arising from leakage; and apparatus for carrying out the test. The gloves are conveyed into and out of an electrolyte bath by scissor tongs 17, 19, Fig. 1, supported from links of a chain conveyer 11, guided by rollers 12 in track members 13, the arms of the tongs being drawn together by a spring 22 when a pin 26 is released from notches 25 by ramps at the post testing, glove releasing point and being forced open by further ramps at the loading point where the gloves are stretched by a manual loader over the curved ends of the open tongs. Arms 17 have an insulated block 34 attached whereby electrode 32, 33 are mounted to depend into an open glove and the electrodes have outer spring contacts which rub along adjacent fixed contacts to provide a level monitoring arrangement whilst the glove is being filled with electrolyte so that the supply of electrolyte is cut off when a circuit is completed across the tips of the electrodes. The filling tube which is moved into the path of the glove for filling is moved clear after a predetermined time, or as a result of the circuit completion. The two contacts are subsequently connected by the spring contacts to a single adjacent contact which is connected in a leak current indicating circuit. The test is arranged to set a pin 29 in a block 28 according to whether or not leakage current flows and the gloves are dropped at a first or second position according to the pin setting.
