Abstract

910,291. Microscope objectives. COOKE, TROUGHTON & SIMMS Ltd. July 29, 1960 [Sept. 21, 1959], No. 32095/59. Class 97 (1). A flat field microscope objective comprises a thick meniscus lens having a Petzval sum not greater than zero and disposed adjacent thereto a convergent doublet lens having a cemented surface which is convex towards the meniscus lens and is adapted substantially to correct the axial chromatic aberration and astigmatism introduced by the thick meniscus, the objective being furthermore provided with positive and negative singlet lenses which are spaced apart by less than one-twentiethof the objective focal length and adapted to correct residual aberrations, the negative singlet lens being disposed nearest to the image plane of the microscope. Optical data are given in the Specification for one example of the objective shown.
