Abstract
900,444. Flushing cisterns. PEARMAN, H. Oct. 19, 1960 [Nov. 5, 1959]. No. 37509/59. Class 26. A float-controlled discharge valve e.g. in the bottom of cistern 12, comprises a flexible, e.g. rubber valve disc 20 anchored at its center to the bottom of float 17 which moves on guide tube 16 fixed at 15 centrally of a discharge fitting 11 which forms a flat valve seat. As the cistern fills through the ball-float valve, the float 17 and disc 20 remain seated at 11. When filled, the float is lifted manually e.g. by a crank engaging at 23, so that the disc is pulled off the seat and the float rises to the water surface. On the cistern emptying through the seat 11 and opening 22 in the guide, the disc flexes under suction and re-engages the seat. As the water again rises, the float descends slightly and the disc flattens on the seat.
