Abstract
In a method of planting and harvesting potatoes, the seed-potatoes are placed upon a perforated plastic strip which is buried in the ground and subsequently excavated, with the superposed crop, to expose the potatoes. The plastic strip which may be formed with fine holes or may be formed of capillary foam, is laid on the ground with the seed-potatoes superimposed and earthed over to form a ridge or is laid in a trench the strip being either laid flat or wrapped over the potatoes to form a channel. The digging device, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprises a share followed by rollers over which the excavated strip runs. Haulms may be cut off either before excavation or while the strip passes through the machine.
